Default AMSOIL Oil ??????

I want to know if anyone has any factual opion on AMSOIL Oil in their cars and does it lower the temperature as it claims. I just read a 28 page lab comparison test performed by The American Petroleum Institute (API) on AMSOIL versus 9 other full synthetics including Mobil 1 and Royal Purple and it decimated them in all catagories such as vescosity breakdown, shear wear, foaming, oxidation protection and many other tests. And the change interval is 25,000 miles between oil changes that AMSOIL states. What are your thoughts and experience? This lap test is on the AMSOIL website.

It may be good, But I will say this, There is no way I would ever drive a car for 25000 miles between oil changes seeing that oil is so cheap. RP user here.

AMSOIL is good stuff for sure, but so is Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and a few others. I use AMSOIL in my trackbike, and it does it's job just fine. As far as actual lower temperatures and such, well even it is a degree or two lower then the next brand, it doesn't make much of a difference overall. Fact of the matter is, if your not into racing, these little details and claims won't make a difference...and even then it doesn't make a difference because if you race you definitely not going to keep the oil for more then a days session. For street use any of the synthetic name brands will work just fine. I also would never hold ANY brands claim on how long you can go without an oil change. When it gets dirty, you change it PERIOD!

I use Amsoil in both my Vette and Mustang and it is an awesome product!! The money you save in just changing your oil once a year instead of every 3,000 miles is worth every penny. I have had no problem with there products once so ever and do notice a positive change in both temperature and gas mileage. I would trust going 25,000 miles with Amsoil!!

There seems to be a lot of proof posted all over that Amsoil is the best.

I had it in the engine/tranny/and diff but I cheaped out last time a change was due. :o

Now I use Castrol Syntec on ze' mo-tor, and some other synthetics (forgot) for the rest.

Don't forget to achieve the 25,000 mls you will still have to use their oil filter which is awesome and also change the filter during the 25,000 mls and then top off the oil. The oil can go the distance if you do the filter change along the way. Also at any point you can do an oil analysis using Blackstone labs to put your mind at ease letting you know where your at.

I was impressed with the article and the lab results and that it was performed by an unbias testing group and the results are certified and dont lie. I have used Mobil 1 for many years and been happy with the results. But the one on one tests between AMSOIL and Mobile 1 revealed that AMSOIL out performed Mobil 1 heads up in all testing catagories. I wanted some opinions before i decided to change to AMSOIL to make objective decission.

When I heard that Mobil1 burns faster and loses it's viscosity much faster than RP, RL and Amsoil, I started doing research.

Mobil1's base stock changed from full synthetic to a group 3 synthetic. RP also is a group 3 synthetic.

The major difference between Amsoil and Mobil1 is that Amsoil is 100% synthetic because it's a group 4 synthetic. It will definitely out-perform Mobil1 in all aspects.

That's not to say it's bad to use Mobil1. My next oil change, however, will be Amsoil. I don't even know what's in the car now since I just got it. My last oil change on the other Z was Penzoil Platinum, which I believe is also a group 3 and it worked just fine.

Amsoil recommends 25k or ONE YEAR, and I'd be willing to bet that most people here don't drive their C5s more than 25k per year. Under ideal circumstances (all highway driving) Amsoil can easily last 25k. For instance if you were doing 1000 miles per week, then you'd be the perfect candidate for 25,000 mile oil changes, otherwise would you rather be changing your oil every 3-5 weeks? I didn't think so.

I pay around $7.50 a quart for Amsoil. I've got over $15,000 invested in my motor, so it's worth it to me. I also use it in my TrailBlazer SS.

Most oils can last longer than what most driver's oil change intervals are. Usually the weak link is the filter.

I could never run up to 25k miles anyways... my '01z would burn about 2 quarts every 3k miles.

Even if I never changed the oil, it would always have fresh oil from adding and then just keep changing filters.

I have been doing research on these oils as well and from what I can tell Amsoil is the best. There are studies out there that rank oils for various test and amsoil always seems to be in the top 1 or 2 oils in every test. Is it better than RP? yes. Will you notice the difference? I highly doubt it.
Personally, I see oil as too important to cheap out on. I have been running Royal Purple in my car since I bought it (15 months and 17k miles ago) and it has performed fine but I used that because it was the best that I could get my hands on locally.
That being said, I found an Amsoil dealer in my area and I am switching the car over today(just in time). Amsoil is actually CHEAPER than RP if you get it from the right place, some websites give you prices near dealer cost. So that way you get the best oil at a really good price. The filters are expensive but if you do the research, most claim they are the best.
Amsoil does state that there oil and filters will last for 25k miles OR ONE YEAR, which ever comes first, but I wouldnt wait that long. I would still change it when the computer dictates just to be on the safe side. If you feel that is a waste of the oil then you could always poor it back into another vehicle that isnt as important
Also, make sure you do not get the XL (extended life) oil if you are planning on long change intervals. XL is rated for only 7500 miles, not the 25k the other type is rated for.

Default Better of the best or . . .?

I'm sure that Amsoil is everything it's suppose to be. And if I'm not wrong Amsoil and Mobil came out with synthetic motor oil at about the same time. I change my oil once a year, cause I don't drive my vette more than 3K miles in a given year. I use Mobil-1. But if Amsoil was as available as Mobil-1 I'd most likely switch over to them. But when looking at Mobil-1, it's confusing as Mobil-1 is the factory fill for auto's like Corvette ZR-1 and below, Mercedes-Benz AMG (their high HP/performance division) All Cadillacs, All Porsches, All Bentliey's, All Acura RDX's, All Bristol fighter & fighter S, the Nissan GT-R, all Toyota Lexus LFA and the list goes on. And I'm sure Bobtheoilguy is fighting mad now, but if Mobil-1 is so poor a choice for a motor oil, why would those **** Porsche engineers even consider using Mobil-1 in all their engines? All things said, I think Amsoil is great stuff and sooner or later I'll find an outlet and start buying it, but right now Mobil-1 does everything my Corvette needs, So if it ain't broke, I don't want to fix it !
