Default Vette Net

Has anyone used a vette net with their vert and does it help? i'm taking my vert on a long trip this summer and would like to have the top down as much as possible.

I had one and sold it. It does work but you have to take it apart everytime you want to put the roof up. I found it to be a pain to put up and down so I never used it unless the wife insisted. I think it would be useful on a long trip. HTH

First be aware, there are two types (if you are buying used); one is a mesh and one plexi-glass. The mesh one (1st generation) isn't as effective as the latter. It also sits a little taller. If you get one make sure its the plexi-glass one.

Does it work? Well, with the side windows up it makes the difference between talking to your passenger and yelling at each other. With the windows up you really don't need to wear a hat to keep your hair in place.

Also windows-up makes listening to the radio/CD at lower volumes more likely.

With the side windows down, its effectiveness degrades over 60%.

As far as wind goes, YES, it works. But again, you MUST drive with your side windows up if your speed is about 40-45.

The downsides might be, it might rattle a little once in awhile but usually is not obnoxious and, if you put the top up, you'll have to remove it (which takes about 1/2 a second). It is small enough to store in the trunk or, do what I do when I leave the car for short periods; remove it, place it on the center arm rest until I return, put the top up, and lock the car.

Overall I'd still give the plexiglass model 5 out of 5.

One more thing, its pretty ineffective in city traffic so I usually only have the side windows up when on the freeway or if the temperature is under 60.

My girlfriend loves it and, in cool to cold temps, if you turn on your heater and put the windows up you can still ride around with your top down quite comfortably.

I have one and do use it....I find it effective even with the side windows down. I also found the if you put a wine cork in each tube the plexi net will sit a bit higher and work even better. Also if you wrap the bottom of the net tubes with electrical tape rattles are way reduced. Enjoy.

I did the wine cork thing also and think it works better slightly elevated also. I'm 5'10".

Overall, I honestly don't think it makes THAT much difference unless you've got long hair whipping around. That's why the ladies like it. As a male driver, you always get the wind blowing on the left shoulder and ear, vette net or not. (unless you've got your gansta' lean goin on) The biggest difference is the wind swirling around the back of your head and maybe a little less wind on top of your head. Mostly it's the swirl behind your head.

Sometimes I use it, and sometimes I don't...like when I want to feel all of the wind massaging my scalp. Makes me feel more alive.

Finally, here in Oklahoma, if you've got a 25-30 mph wind hard out of the south like we do on many days, there ain't NOTHING gonna keep the blast effect out of the car except rolling up the windows.

I had one too, maybe a little bit of difference but not enough to justify the price of a new one. I bought and sold mine here on the forum.

i have one of the "newer" lexan or lucite types (not the mesh type) and i find it does definitely cut down on the backdraft wind. it makes taking a long ride with the top down very tolerable for my wife (the main reason to own it, lol) and it makes it possible to carry on a conversation without screaming at one another. it's an expensive accessory, but if you plan on long, top down trips, you will find it helpful.

hmm. it seems about 1/3 of the people love it, 1/3 think it's ok, and 1/3 hate it. if it wasn't so expensive i would just give it a shot, but i'm just not sure. i'm afraid a lot of people who don't like it, don't like it because of the price, not the function. i think i'll like it on the long trips, but that's only a couple times a year. just not sure if it's worth the money or if we should just suck it up and deal with the wind...

I bought one a few months ago and found it works great. I'm 6'2" and without the device I'd get a lot of wind hitting me in the back of the head making it impossible to wear a cap. No problem with the Vette Net. I can cruise the highways and not worry about losing the cap. Wind turbulence is not eliminated, but it's significantly reduced.

You can always make your own for < $50.
Not ideal but with the homemade version you can keep it in place and still put the top up.

i'm not worried about what they have to say, i just don't want to shell out 4 franklins for something that doesn't work.

i'm 6'5", but i sit low, so i think i'll be ok. but some people were saying it still didn't work. so i don't know what to believe

i'm certainly not making a pitch for you to buy it, but a suggestion might be to post here for anyone in your area who might have one. get together with them (a great chance to meet someone from the forum, lol) and see if they might not be kind enough to share a highway ride with you so you can make up your own mind.
