Default VIN covered on dash... help

Hey guys, there's a couple tickets covering the VIN on my dash from the previous owner. They slipped down there and I can't figure a way to get them out without removing the entire dash. I've already tried a couple things but no luck. Any tricks or tips?

Thanks!

Short piece of stiff mechanics's wire. Bend a little "L" on the end. Coat hangar wire probably going to be too thick/big.

Have you tried one of the flexible grabbers that are used to grab screws and such that fall into the engine area? They have a claw type end.

Similar to this.

I tried some wire but it was impossible to get any type of grip on the cards. All it would do is move them around a little.

There's no way that would fit... I'd say there's maybe 1/8" gap.

There's a foam liner that makes it frustrating. Once you get one of the cards moving up, it hits the liner and drops back.

Thanks for the replies.

Try a small piece of double sided tape on the end of thin cardboard.

I tried tape and it just sticks to the dash or window before it gets to the cards. Maybe I can find some less sticky thin tape that will make it to the cards...

What about a dental pic with a sharp point? Maybe you could stick the point into the paper and pull it out.

I tried 4 different style dental picks but there's not enough room to hold it plus the shaft on them is too thick to get far.

LOL. I should of listed what I already tried in the first post, huh?

What about your shop vac with a blow nozzle to dislodge or use the narrow vacuum end.
Has worked for me in the past on other cars.

Double sided tape on thin cardboard, sticky tape side down and slide it down the glass.

I'll try both of these and report back tomorrow.

Thanks!

I used an air hose and shot a few bursts and they came out.

I sort of doubt those "accidentally fell" into that area. Some people purposely "cover" their VIN number - this guy probably just did it in such a way that it would look like an accident. He may have done that with the dash out?

Maybe. I've got mine covered on purpose. Thin black plastic cut to a certain shape with a small "tab" with a hole in it that sticks up a little. I use a small piece of wire with a hook on the end to remove it if I need to for some reason, otherwise it stays covered.

This is probably the best route to go at it, or using very thin machanic's wire with a shot of Upholstery adhesive on the end of the wire with a 'L' bend in it. Not sure, but I'm guessing here !

I used duct tape stuck to the end of a thin metal ruler (feeler gauge would work) the duct tape was stiff enough to stay off the dash until it got to where I want it....

Many cover theirs intentionally...
Using the VIN # any dealer can cut a key.... they are supposed to ask for ID and proof of ownership..... but ... there is always someone willing to turn a blind eye for a quick buck....

A small piece of 5% window tint material with a small tab on it for easy removal "fell" over mine about a year ago.
