I'm new to the corvette world. I have a question. Until yesterday I thought the only difference between the C5 and C6 bodies were headlamps and back up lamps. My son who has a 2004 said the 2005 and newer are totally different bodies. Just what is the difference between a 04 and say an 08? I'm was looking to buy an 08, my son say's the C5 is a better, more comfortable car. HELP! My head is spinning here
They're both great cars. I've owned and like both. I'll tell you a few advantages to the 08 3LT package and the 04 well equipped models, I'll speak to verts since that's the last two I've owned.
08 has 436 hp with NPP dual mode exhaust as opposed to 350 in 04
Power top
19" wheels on front, 20 on rear as opposed to 17, 18
no pop up headlights
keyless ignition
heated seats
in dash cd changer
trunk partition
08 will still be under factory warranty
automatic is 6 speed, with paddle shifter on steering wheel
audio controls on steering wheel
windows index up and down with door opening, less likelyhood of power window motor sticking from non use and seals better in weatherstrip
Some will tell you all of these are not positives, but you decide. I could also make a list of things I like about the C5, but I suggest you take your son's car with you and compare with the 08 you're looking at. If you like the C5 better, you've just saved some money. The warranty might make a difference to you , it did for me. Post what you decide.
haven't owned a C6 but given the small amount of time I've spent driving one...
C6 has a better engine, better transmission. better, upgraded, more advanced electronics. much better interior.
C5's exterior looks a lot better.
if both are well within your price range, get the C6. I personally love my C5. I don't think I'd trade it for a C6, but I'll eventually add a C6 to the collection.
Thanks. I thought I had decided on an 08. Then son called and said he found a 99 silver vert with 6,000 miles. Silver was not a favorite for me, yellow is/was?? I went on craigslist and found a yellow coupe with 200 miles for $25,000. What to do?? Seems there are quite a few low mile vettes for sale. I just learned the silver 99 may be sold, will know Monday. By the way, the yellow one with 200 miles is an 01.

If your budget allows for a C6 - I'd recommend going that route. You get the latest in technology, a more powerful engine, plus if it is new enough, a factory warranty.
Nothing wrong with a C5 (I've owned 3) though if that body style looks better to you.
