Thanks did not go to the extreme just got the air bag out and there was that little pesky bushing I managed to put in the screw access hole. Reminded me of when our children were little and put a matchbox car in the VCR.I guess it was my turn today to do something silly.
Do you mean the cover of the steering column? Or the back side of the steering wheel itself? Steering wheel is not difficult to remove. Disable Air bags, remove air bag, unbolt steering wheel and use puller to remove.
Breaking the spline loose can be particularly difficult. Once, I went through three different pullers before finding the right configuration that worked. The puller arm hooks tend to slip off the steering wheel if they aren't solidly anchored. Try some WD40 on the spline along with rocking the wheel back and forth with lots of force to try and break the spline free before making another attempt with a puller.
