I have over 76K on my original clutch (bought it with 55K,,nothing on the car fax or GM Service report),,and still going strong. Have even had several nights at the strip. Don't expect any problems for a long time!! Had a turbo Volvo that had over 250K,,going still going strong when a tree fell on it during a storm!!
GMC pick-up does not equate to a Corvette for clutch life.
My 2002 is 9 years old and has 84k miles and is original. You will not get more than 125k out of the 4l60e it is garbage. My dad's went at 110k, mine went at 60k, and my wife's is going at 90k. At 60k miles start a slush fund for when you have to replace the tranny. I'm already getting ready for my wife's swap out. I'll likely put in a 4l80e to replace it. I've had to fork out $2500 already for my firebird, and luckily since I can now do the work, my wife's will only cost me $1200. I will not drive an auto anymore, 4 of my 5 cars currently or will have (1971 BBC Monte) manuals.
OK so enlighten me with your facts. with everything being relative a clutch is matched to the car. If one in a Vette is being hammered due to racing or a bad operator you are right it does not equate. So tell me why they don't last in a Vette.
Still waiting What you make an uneducated comment and when challenged about your facts you run . This is a friendly discussion , don't throw a sucker punch and run.

I disagree on the 4L60E - I had mine for 90,000 and the "ONLY" reason it went out with the 701 RWHP was that I overheated it and nailed it twice and lost the 3-4 clutch band. Dumb me, not the tranny's fault but mine. (244*) Now I have a proper cooler. Heat is waht kills the tranny's and not tuned properly!
A Properly TUNED A4 Tranny with a "GOOD" tranny cooler will last a very, very long time.

Thanks,Matt
Maybe with the tranny cooler, but my firebird V6 snapped the 2-4 band effectively leaving me with 1st and 3rd gear, so the problem you experienced with your 4l60e and 701 rwhp is exactly the same problem I experienced with mine and 185 rwhp.
I passed on a TON of C5s when I bought my Vert because they were all autos. Keep looking the manuals are out there. Knowing "how to drive a stick" is probably why some of us get well over 100k miles on the stock clutch and some people get 25-50k.

Yeah man, if it's just a DD then I would go for the auto. I don't know about you but when I get into a musclecar with a manual I can't keep my foot out of it. Therefore costing me more in gas and probably some unecessary repairs down the road.
Not to mention a more likely chance to meet a LEO on the shoulder.
