Default Replacing Ignition Switch

Tried to use the search function and could not find any info, so I am asking for input.

First 98 A-4 with all the column recalls done, not a daily driver, but driven often. I have installed the CLB and had no problems until a couple of weeks ago. I started having pull key and wait ten seconds. I cleaned the resistor and no better, the car would cut off at 2 mph. I would pull key and then all would be fine. I was worried that this would eventually fail on me, so I had a local speed shop "Virginia Speed" do a dyno tune and program out the fuel cutoff . The car is stock, but the tune and tranny shift points were reprogramed and now the car is sooooo much better. Sorry to get off topic.
I get the pull key message every now and then, but I can drive the care without worry. Today I drove and the security light stayed on the entire time, the car ran and drove just fine, but I am afraid things are declining.

THe question is if I change the ignition switch, do I need to get a switch with a certain resistor, and can the switch be adjusted for my key, or do I need to have the doors locks replaced with the new ignition switch and key?

Sorry so long, and if you are still reading this, thank you I wanted to give as much info as practical.

I would suggest posting this in Tech, there are some sharp guys that don't visit General that hang out on there.

several years ago I was having problems w/ my 99 vert. A new ignition switched fixed the problem. They re-keyed it to match prior to installation.

I would think that if you replaced the switch with one of equal value there wouldn't be a problem. Measure the resistance on the chip in your key and get a switch to match it.

Key # - Resistance Value (Ohms)

#1 - 0.402 (acceptable range .386-.438)

#2 - 0.523 (acceptable range .502-.564)

#3 - 0.681 (acceptable range .650-.728)

#4 - 0.887 (acceptable range .850-.942)

#5 - 1.130 (acceptable range 1.085-1.195)

#6 - 1.470 (acceptable range 1.411-1.549)

#7 - 1.870 (acceptable range 1.795-1.965)

#8 - 2.370 (acceptable range 2.275-2.485)

#9 - 3.010 (acceptable range 2.890-3.150)

#10 - 3.740 (acceptable range 3.590-3.910)

#11 - 4.750 (acceptable range 4.560-4.960)

#12 - 6.040 (acceptable range 5.798-6.302)

#13 - 7.500 (acceptable range 7.200-7.820)

#14 - 9.530 (acceptable range 9.149-9.931)

#15 - 11.801 (acceptable range 11.320-12.290)

The VATS pellet is specific to the ignition switch and key and the switch works the door locks so I guess yes.

Take a look at this thread on how to replace it:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ch-repair.html

One of the things that has caused some barrels to wear out and the security light to come on is too much weight on the key ring. That causes a bad connection with the pellet. Do you hang a bunch of stuff on there? If so try taking the weight off.
