What is the big black piece on the inside of the door, and do I have to remove it to check things out? It is sealed, so I am not sure.
I DO remember hearing a pop in my door last week, but didn't think much about it until now. I am thinking that zip-tie thing may have come out. Where exactly does it go, and do I need to remove the speaker to get it?

I believe the big black thing that you are refering to is the a ruber insulator. Yes, pull that back, and the zip tie thing is between that big hole and the speaker. You won't need to pull the speaker. From the big hole you should see if the zip tie that holds the cables together is there and if it's in place. If not, there is only one place for it to go.
Okay, so I just got back into the window issue. I took the panel back off and nothing looks to be out of place. The black zip-tie piece is in place, which is what I thought the issue might have been.
So, now I find that the window is grinding on the way down ONLY if you raise it up all the way. If you raise it just a little, or almost all the way, it doesn't make any grinding noise on the way down.
I ordered a new regulator and did the replacement tonight. When I got my old one out, I found that the cable was off of one of the pulleys. Now I don't know if I needed a new regulator or not. My guess is that my old regulator is in a useable condition.
If you remember, I said that it seemed like there was some slack in the cable. The new regulator has zero slack. I am going to try to get the cable back on the pulley, check the slack and then I will try to make someone a really good deal on my old regulator and motor.
Check the cable pulleys too while you have the panel off. Had one on a guys car that was making all kinds of noise and the cable just came off the front pulley. Just something to check.
oh, I read the comment. And I thought I had a good look at each of them. But in my defense it's extremely hot outside. I try to do things quickly, before I dehydrate.
It's bad when the choice is: day time with extreme heat, or less heat and it's dark out and you have fight with the mosquitoes. Crappy decision.
Just messin' with you-I thought I was very careful with my pilot bearing when I installed my new clutch, but but I fubared it and got to do the whole job again--sometimes it's the little stuff that gets you($10 part,16 hour job)
The main thing is you got it fixed
