a 160 thermostat isn't going to do much unless you have higher compression.

is your car an auto or manual?if it's an auto,a stall converter is a great mods.problem is the cost of install,Probably around $800 for labor.

lt headers are one of the best mods and you can find shops that will overlook them but you will have to have cats with them to pass the sniffer.a complete used set will cost $800-$1000 and then around $500 for labor to install.

if you decide to do a tune,i would have someone do it in person rather than a mailorder tune.there are 3 great tuners in norcal.2 in the bay and 1 in sacramento.to me,a mailorder tune is to general and like everyone says,"every car is different."

suspension,you can almost get a used set of coilovers for a $1000 but then you'l need install and alignment/corner balance.

the labor to install your mods is going to kill the $1000 budget very quickly.
