For three years, I've taken advantage of CF and received lots of help. What a great community. I just bought a lifetime to CF to support this great forum and to salute the great folks that support CF with their time and knowhow.
Yesterday, at work, my C5 experienced the dreaded Column Lock. After a day of trying to get the car to the dealer, I resigned my self to the fact that it had to stay there, and left the car at work. Spent the night cruising CF, found an answer to my situation (the "shake and turn the steering wheel trick), got the car safely home and tucked in the garage, awaiting a CLB from a supporting vendor. Although the dealer was helpful, at the end, they are tied to their policy of how such a repair is done, so I'll be diving in and fixing this little problem once and for all.
The availability of the info on this site is certainly worth the $100 and more. Keep up the great work!!!
I thought about doing it a few years back, but now that IB owns it, I'm not going to.
They get plenty of money from advertising and that slows the site down.
I'm not trying to say this site isnt any good. It certainly is, and has many fantastic members willing to help others in need. I have benefited greatly from the Corvette Forum.
I came here over ten years ago, and it was much smaller back then. things got to a semi-rough point, I got into trouble with something I said, to which plagues me to this day from a non-supporting vendor. But I got a ton of help on restoring my 79 C3, and from that experience, when Troy Roberts offered memberships, I saw the value in a lifetime commitment and have always been happy with it. When Troy sold out to Internet Brands, very little changed. But the most of the credit for the operation of this great fourm goes to the Moderators ! they work for free and their responsibilities are immense. They and they alone keep the flow and individual parties displaying some level of social responsibility & courtesy.
The info that fellow members provide has saved me so much money over the years that it was a no-brainer for me. I saved more than the cost of the lifetime membership in one repair alone. And I probably wouldn't have tackled half the jobs that I did if it weren't for the write-ups we see around here. Yes, anyone can partake of the info here without buying a membership, but if it helps keep the Forum running smoothly, then I'm for it.
