Default Check Engine Light/Lean fuel code/Air intakes

Hi all,

I bought my second Vette and love it. It's a 2004 ZO6, but the previous owner put on a ram air/vortex intake system. When I last cleaned the filter, one month ago, a bud of mine pointed out the intake was dirty. I cleaned the filter and carried on w/ my merry life.

Last week, the check engine light came on, so I took it to the dealership. I was told the code was for a lean fuel mixture in both banks at 68mph. I was flogging the car shortly before the light came on, but driving normal when it popped up.

The dealer had no real explanation and cleared the code for me. The light came back on after another flogging session, so I turned to google. I read a posting from this forum with a similar problem. They sighted a possible air leak in the intake system as a culprit and recommended ways to make the system more airtight. They also mentioned that aftermarket intakes often throw codes and can be a problem.

I'd like to go back to stock. Any recommendations on the following???:

-Where do I get a complete shroud and air cleaner box w/ straps and mounting equip?

-How do I clean a MAF and intake?

-What's an easy way to clear the code?

Thanks

lean codes are not unusual with a CAI on the car.
Halltech sells a honeycomb "end lean codes forever", didn't work for my car, but I guess a lot of people had good results- might be worth a try if you are sure you have no air leak paths (I know I don't)

clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner available anywhere. Don't touch anything with the spray nozzle or your fingers etc, dirt should hose right off.

you can read the codes by pressing options and the top button (don't remember which it is) on the right side of the cluster 4 times to progress thru the codes automatically, or 5 times for manual paging. When you get to the code, press and hold reset and it'll clear the code and the CEL.

I should have written hold the option button and press the top button 4 or 5 times. Press E/M to exit the diagnositics

I would also start with cleaning the MAF. if you oiled the filter some of the excess may have got on the maf... Or the MAF could just be dirty. I have the same intake on my car (was on there when i bought it, thinking of getting a blackwing instead). Ran it up pretty hard a few times and no CEL. If it was not getting a CEL before the oiling of the filter then i would think you may find some of the oil on the MAF.

I would clean the MAF like stated above. I have some MAF cleaner I got at advance auto that I use on my Cummins and Z that works great. It is more expensive than other options but worth it to me.

The lean code is from air turbulence - very common with aftermarket intakes. Get the halltech honeycomb....or get a custom dyno-tune.
