Has anyone used the pre-mixed dex-cool? If so, are you satisfied? If it's not a good idea for a vette; why?
Looking to change mine this week and would like to know as this seems to be about the same cost as the straight stuff.
changed the coolant in my 2000 coupe with the 50/50 pre-mixed a few months ago.....no problems yet and the weather here in jersey has been in the upper 90's.

A lot of threads on this subject...get ready to hear several different opinions. Dex-cool premix will be fine. I opted to with another coolant that was dex-cool compatible. I did this because I was afraid that dex-cool in the long run would become corrosive and ruin seals. (This happened on GM's v6 3.1 and I think 3.4 engines)
As long as you maintain the factory maintenance period to change your coolant you'll be fine.
i just got the pre-mix version because i'm too lazy to get distilled water and mix myself. if you are meticulous about maintenance and want a better value get the straight dexcool and mix with distilled water.
there is no difference between the two except the 50/50 already has water in it.
if you plan on using tap water with the straight stuff, just get the 50/50 instead and be done with it.
btw, 2 gallons was just about right.
100% plus a garden hose worke for me after a good flush
Since the system is almost impossible to drain completely I flushed using a garden hose with radiator drain open and engine running. Did this till clear running out of radiator. Then let drain as much as possible with car front end pitched lower than rear. Used regular Dexcool full strength and added till radiator full. Started engine and waited for thermostat to open. Added more Dexcool to fill. About 6 or 7 quarts will protect the car to -20 F. Not in Iowa anymore where temps really get that low but it is surely good enough for MD. Don't see the need for distilled water.
