Default Few questions

Anyone else have major brake dust issues on these c5's? Wow I take it out once and the front wheels are dirty like crazy.

What's the best thing to use to polish the tips?

What type of tips do you have on the car? Stock chrome tips - just use some chrome polish (I use Mothers). For stainless steel - use Mothers Mag Polish.

Stock pads? May be that someone put a more aggressive pad on it which would make a lot more dust (but obviously stop better). The stock pads (which i use as IMO they are the best compromise between stopping power, less fade and medium dust) do make dust, but not a ton unless you drive em hard.

How hard are you driving them ?

Dont know which wheels you have but if they are clear coated (like the oem's) you may want to clean them up and put a good coat of the same wax you use on the car on them, particularly the barrels, to make them easier to clean the next time and also to prevent the damage long term brake dust does to an unprotected finish. Some people like to use Rejex as an alternative and report that less dust sticks and they are easier to clean after application.

Ceramic brake pads will help with the brake dust. I use Raybestos Quiet Stops.

I got GM Ceramic pads & it helped cut down on the brake dust. I run chrome wheels & the brake dust really showed b-4 I changed over. I like to use a 50/50 mix of vinegar & water to wipe down the wheels after a drive.

This pad will give you better performance and cut dust by 50% at least! Plus longer life than oem.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Default Do you want to STOP or look pretty

Personally I prefer to STOP. Ceramics dust lighter but semi-metallic stop better without fade.

Like Charlie the tuna... Do you want good taste or taste good?

It takes me about 10-15 minutes to wipe off the dust on the wheels and carbon on the tips.
I enjoy the time spent doing that and wiping down the car with a California duster. I guess I just love looking at and after the car. Of course, I have only owned the car for 2 1/2 years so maybe I'll get over it someday-but I doubt it.
