Finally found out high temp problem

You are correct, there is no con unless you live in Alaska. I have replaced t-stats in both of our cars, '02 and '09 and am very satisfied. Both cars run the same temp driving with a.c. off, 171-176* just where i like it. I didn't reset any fans because when the temps creep up while idling, temp goes back down to 170's moving. The 160* t-stat is the best and least expensive mod you can do.

Glad you got it fixed and the home depot guard removed before it caused damage.
