Default Skip Shift Eliminator

Where is it located? Engine light is on. My friend ran computer diagnostics on it and, that is what is coming up. This was my dads car. I haven't touched it for the last few years. My dad had this installed and I have no paperwork on it.

In the back of the driver's side, behind the drivers muffler-should be zip tied to the trans near where the connector where is used to be plugged into the trans. I fixed mine with a 220 ohm resistor from radio shack.

It's located on the drivers side of the transmission fairly high on the case and plugged into the wire from the sensor. The other end of the wire should just be hanging near the Skip Shift Eliminator device.

Why do you need a special tool to look at the codes on a C5????? Most do not recognise the Corvette unique codes. The C5 has it's own tool built in and the codes display in the DIC.

Here is a link on how to use it:

Just Asking ---

When my Skip Shift Light comes on once in a while I ignore it and can shift to any gear I want, though I never installed the the Eliminate Devise,

ps I'm original owner

does that sound right ?

No Problem - just asking ... is that normal ?

Been a while since I had my turned off in the computer but AIR if you stop in neutral for a second and then shift into second (or third) you can bypass the system when the CAGS light is illuminated. I installed a eliminator device (resistor) and still got the light so when I had the car tuned, I had the skip shift programmed out. Now it is like any othe car with no light and no forced 1st to 4th shift.

If you don't have the CAGS eliminator installed, as long as you exceed the parameters the engineers designed into the system to make the CAGS work, then yes, you can shift into other gears besides 1-4. The parameters are discussed in the owners manual.
