Default Rear lowering kit nightmare

Hey dudes,
I am in the process of lowering the C5 with the bolts that came in a package that looked like the pic below. The bolts are already in, and I need to know the length of thread on them to see how much farther down I can go on the bolt. My deep socket can't go any farther or it has met the thread length. So if anyone has this kit in their garage waiting for install, can you measure the thread and post it please? I am trying to figure out if I need to lower the front more (trying to avoid this) or if I buy a 19MM wrench I can go farther down on the lowering bolt.

I know this defeats the purpose of the mod, but not looking forward to slamming my front end on stuff. I lowered my front end on stock bolts a while ago, not sure if it raised itself when I lifted the beast in addition to the weight shifting to the rear since lowering bolts are in - and needs to settle. The front looks so much higher than the rear now. So I am trying to lift the rear, so it is at least a little higher than the fronts - this is a sweaty project for hot humid Chicago in July

Thanks dudes

Those 7" bolts have about 1-1/4" thread. 6" bolts work better, you can get them at most TruValue (grade 8) w/ nylon thread.

Check this out and you'll see why 7s don't work so well. Scroll down a ways to get to the 'rear lowering' portion

this thread plus this one shows my pain during hot, humid Chicago in July

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...is-frozen.html

so here is the end of the story and a lesson for those about to go down this road...

I put in the 7" lowering bolts and it slammed the rear to where there was only 1/4 or less between tire and wheel well. The front was noticeably higher than the rear. On one bolt, I cross threaded the nut on the first thread - luckily found a replacement at ACE and was able to chisel out the bent thread on the bolt, but then realized the car was too slammed. When I tried to raise the car to even out with the front I cross threaded the nut on the other bolt about 3/4 the way down. Even at this point that beast was too low in the rear. Seriously peeved at this point, I set the wrench against the hole for the endlink, used my monster torque wrench, proped my foot up against the inner wheel well and was able to snap the lowering bolt in half where it was cross threaded by just using my body strength and torque wrench. What a relief when that bolt snapped.

Long story short, I just cut the stock bushings and lowered to about 2 threads showing on the stock bolts and I am very happy with the height. Just glad it is over at this point, I wish I had read the thread in the post above before I drove myself crazy this past weekend (cuts, serious bruises, and busted knee).

Thats good news! Glad you have your car at the ride height your satisfied with. It's a good feeling to be able to do the job yourself! Now enjoy your car's new stance and enjoy the rest of the day.
