So I'm searching threads on here.... still wanting to know if my 2002 is still subject for colum lock issues. I read it was pre-2001 issues... is this correct ? Should I be installing a bypass before I have this problem in my 2002?

I have an '02 Z06 and put one on it. To my knowledge all C5s had it except for some of the later ones with A4 transmissions. My advice is put one on it. $50 for peace of mind. I may not be 100% accurate on this. I'm sure others will chime in.

Reason: can't spell
I believe: Automatic: it is not needed but in a 6 speed: yes. I put one in my 2001 6 speed just to protect myself on the road. $50 is cheaper than a tow charge...

YES, 2002's are susceptible to the locking column
If you have a manual transmission in your 2002 you should install a CLB

Autos after 2000 are immune but manuals could have CL issues.
Column lock problems can occur to any 1997 - 2000 either manual or automatic.
2001 and newer automatics CANNOT have a column lock problem as they were not fitted with the column locking mechinism.
2001 and newer manual trans cars can have column lock problems.
If you are not the original owner of a C5 then the only guaranteed way to know what has been done to the column locking system is to physically inspect and even then you will not know if the fuel shutoff speed in the PCM has been reprogrammed.
