I plan on doing a sub in my coupe. I went to the local audio shop hear a lot of good about the place. Heres the recommended setup.
JL stealth box in the back (replace CD changer) with 10 in. JL W3
JL 600 watt 6 channel amp mounted behind passenger seat
2 channels hooked to front factory speakers 2 to the rears
Final 2 channels on sub
The whole setup out the door $1300. The whole setup would look 100% stock. I have JLs in my truck and love them. Has anyone seen or heard the JL stealthbox in a C5? I am also worried about the sub vibrations making the car seem ratty over time like it would make the car age quicker any opinions on this??
Stock speakers have internal amps. I don't think you can hook an after market amp to them. They certainly wouldn't handle the extra power.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
.
Do NOT run an amp to the factory speakers. The stock speakers won't like the extra power. If you're going to use a 6-channel amp, you might as well replace the crappy factory speakers as well.
The JL steath w a 10 in it should be fine.....just enough bass...but not to much and it should be pretty tight and not booooming. I just put a 12 in another car...and it's tooo much. I have a 10 in something else and it's perfect. Don't think you need extra juice to the factory speakers...that being said...i would probably change out the factory speakers and possibly the head unit.
Thanks for the opinions guys just what I wanted to hear about the stealth box . I definitly dont want to rip my car apart... I was told to hook the amp to the stock speakers (I really dont know any better) I may just go ahead and get a price on going with aftermarket speakers instead just do it all right the first time.

I think what they meant was to pull your bass signal from the stock speakers.....I did this with both my C5s (Coupe & Convertible)....You MUST pull a bass signal from somewhere....and since the woofer (bass) is in the door speakers in the C5 that's where you have to tap in to get the signal...Just be sure you tap in right at the woofer and not before the mini-amp attached to the speaker that powers it

I have a JL 12 in mine and it hits like King Kong BUT Im a bass head I would love to have a 15 but it would suck up the whole rear hatch . Spend your money u cant take it with ya!!!Have fun!!!
I bought a sub box off auction site. Put a 10" in where changer was, did four channel amp to rear MB Quartz speakers and Sony sub. Upgraded factory midrange in door with a 2 way tweeter/midrange, left the Bose woofer and stock head unit. Since midrange in door don't have separate amp, it worked well.

hey, Robert2000,
here's a link to a post showing my newly installed system, including the JL Stealthbox and 10W3:
the sub is excellent as far as sound and craftsmanship. i added a jl bass **** so i can adjust how much (or how little) bass it puts out depending on the type/age of the music source i am listening to.
and the sub seems to be getting better the more i tune/adjust the system and with it just getting more "broken in".
Thanks for all the great input guys. I am sold on the stealth box with the JL 10. In the next week or so I am going to get a price on doing the setup with aftermarket speakers. Thankyou again for all the great info pics and input you guys really do to much on the forum.
Rob
btw C5 bears fan I plan on doing a double din head unit in the not to distant future I will get with you on that. I am thinking black hydrocarbon with the ashtray.
I have a Kenwood DNX 6160, DVD,NAV etc, factory BOSE front and Rear speakers, rear JVC tweets (just above the rear Bose) and a 8" 100 amp'd (built in amp) BTA8100 BAZOOKA tube for the Sub) and man does it pound!
Do not run a powered amp to the fronts you'll toast the factory Bose amped speakers!
Talk to Dennis @ Double D mods and get a awesome set-up for $1100 and get a BAZOOKA Tube (built in Amp) for $200 and you'll be thumping a loving the tunes!
Hmmm Bazoka tube I considered that but I dont know why I didnt look into it more

Hidden is the way to go definitly. I would have gotten with you in the first place on the stereo but I dont want to do the install on my own. I have done most of the work on my car on my own but something about the radio just makes me nervous. I will definitly be looking for you to do the indash though I got a chance to see one of your bezels in person and it was really nice looked factory.
