Don't do the 6 channel amp. I've had them over the years and it just isn't as good as 4 channel setup with a seperate sub amp
I've had 9 vettes with 5 that had systems and 3 that I designed myself. Back in the early days I worked as a installer in a car stereo shop.
The best setup I ever had
Top of the line Alpine Deck without a screen
4 channel JL audio 300/4
Memphis 1000 for the sub
Mb quart 8 inch sub in the door with 4 inch above it and tweets near the window sills
6.5 MB quart rears component only without the tweeters
12 inch Treo Sub made for 1000w simler to a JL audio W6 but with more power handling
I never entered it in a competition but I have had friends that won some sound offs and misc in there own cars and loved mine sometimes more then there own
8 inch subs crossed over from 80-650hz mids
4 inch crossed over 650hz and up
6 1/2 rears crossed over at 400hz and up
Once of my earlier C5's came with a 6 channel Mcintosh amp which is very high end. It was clean but just didn't have the uphh needed.
the sub is excellent as far as sound and craftsmanship. i added a jl bass **** so i can adjust how much (or how little) bass it puts out depending on the type/age of the music source i am listening to.
and the sub seems to be getting better the more i tune/adjust the system and with it just getting more "broken in".
i think you'll be happy.
rich
This system does ROCK....I heard it a couple of weeks ago! Nice job Rich!
Does anyone make subs that would fit in the rear stock speaker location?
i dont know of any as there is not alot of depth for coax speakers let alone a sub.
However
i am working on a modified speaker cover for the rear that will allow components or possible a small 6 inch sub to go in Just need to get some extra time to finish this first set for my car

If they did
You're better off getting a BAZOOKA tube and placing it in the reat area where it dips in - it fits perfect and I love mine Plug n play man all the way

By chance, you did not sell your Mcintosh amp to another guy in CA, did you?
I bought my ZO6 from a guy in CA, has the MC4000M amp, running Focal mids + tweets and a JL w3 in a stealth box.. He had everything installed by a shop in CA, but you do not see this amp too often.
Ive found this set-up to be best if you dont want to lose your large center storage well.....It anchors down into the passenger side "cubby"...Plus, you still have the driver's side "cubby" for stowables.....
Thanks again for all the input. Wicked I would love to do an all out set up with 2 amps did it in my tahoe but I dont want to beat up the vette with sound though. Nnial8r does that box interfere with the top storage at all??
Do NOT run an amp to the factory speakers. The stock speakers won't like the extra power. If you're going to use a 6-channel amp, you might as well replace the crappy factory speakers as well.
Your concerns about the sub rattling things can be addressed with dynamat or similar dampening material. The rattling you hear of "gangsta mobiles" with bass blaring is usually from loose or large flat vibrating panels. Adding dynamat or other dampening product keeps the panel from resonating/vibrating when/if it moves.
I run two Xtant 100w full range amps for the doors and an Xtant 600w single for the sub. They sit right behing the bulkhead. I took a board and covered it with matching carpet that hides the amps and site flush with the top edge of the bulkhead. You'd never notice if I didn't tell you it was there. The tweeters are behind the door latches and angled up and to the rear.
