Default CCWs Pitting

I've had my Sp500s for a couple of years with about 3k on them and are starting to pit. Anyone else have this problem? What can i do to correct it?

Have you kept the brake dust off of them?

I have had my SP500's 2.5 years (bare aluminum).
I hit them with Adams Metal Polish twice a year.
I wipe them weekly with Zaino Z8 to get the brake dust off.
Mine look like new.

I don't drive in the rain though (maybe you do) ?

they are polished and i dont drive it in the rain. i talk to brad at ccw and he said it can be caused by brake dust or other contaminats. only way to get them out it to do the wet sanding, rouge, & polish. he also recomended using a sealer every 90 days. they arent too bad but i will probably end up getting them professionaly done in the next few months.

When you do that you may want to change your brake pads.

Carbotech Performance Brakes™ began 17 years ago. In the beginning we thought like everybody else and made brake compounds out of carbon & iron. The problem with carbon & iron is that when it heats up it forms carbide. Carbide is used in cutting tools, so imagine what that does to your rotors. Along with the fact that those compounds tear up rotors, they also produce very corrosive brake dust. While our competition stills uses carbon & iron as the main ingredients in their compounds, Carbotech started an entire new philosophy eight years ago.

Carbotech Performance Brakes™, the world leader in Ceramic friction materials™. It was over eight years ago that Carbotech started building brake pads out of Ceramic, Kevlar, and Carbon for street, autocross and racing applications. Carbotech is the only brake pad manufacturer in the world with a complete line of Ceramic compounds for street, autocross, and track use. Carbotech-Ceramic™ compounds are known for their unsurpassed release & modulation, while maintaining very consistent torque control characteristics. Carbotech brake pads are extremely rotor friendly and contain 100% non-corrosive brake dust, that’s something that has been unmatched by any other brake pad in the industry.

Our competitor’s brake pads perform like an “on/off” switch. Brake pads that perform like an "on/off" switch are upsetting the balance of the car by violently throwing all that weight forward (not to mention that you don't get any modulation with an "on/off" type of brake pad). You don't realize how much it upsets your car until you have tried Carbotech Performance Brake pads. Carbotech has almost a seven year head start on the competition when it comes to our great philosophy on release & modulation, rotor friendliness, non-corrosive dust, and an unmatched consistent bite.

Weird!! Mine are 5 years old, and have ~14k miles on them, and still look great!! I use Adam's #1 & #2 twice a year with a mothers power ball to polish. I do have my centers and inner barrels painted matte black tho.

Pickup some Rejex on E-bay. It is supposed to do wonders to protect your wheels. That is what I have always used (other than the normal polishing routine).

i had the same problem with the small black spots on mine and wasted a lot
of time trying to clean then buff the spots out. i had to wet sand and buff
them and there is still some pitting. the one quote i got from a to pro polisher
was $1200 to make them like new. i did get some metal sealer for the future

If they are bare, clean them up, polish, remove pits, then seal them with ZOOPSEAL. Great product meant for bare metal finishes.

How about after you get them fixed, clear coat them.

I had some pitting on mine too I ended up just wet sanding and polishing.. I use a cotton buffing wheeel and mothrers.. works great.. after every washing I hit the lips with some polish to give some more protestion...

Ive been playing with the idea of using VHT high temp clear on the barrels.. that way if it yellows I can just strip and recoat

Whats Clear Bra? Plastic film? Which might not be a bad Idea.. if you could find some clear vinyl..

the problem will still be there with clear coat, look at factory GM wheels that have a clearcoating on them, over time they get pitted as well.

wetsanding is not difficult, just time consuming. you might also try some 0000 steel wool and metal polish, then follow up with a finishing metal polish.

heres some pics of a set of bogarts that had break dust pitting starting to form.

and after steel wool and followed with another polish with cotton wipes.
