Default High speed hesitation?

Hey Guys,

Quick disclaimer before anyone jumps down my throat. I go to the track to play, I don't screw around on the streets.

So that said, I had been hesitant to try a top end run until I got new tires. Tried it recently and noticed around 130+ i kept feeling some odd but faint hesitation. I'm wondering if it was just the wind drag or me imagining things. I only took it to 150.

Car is FINE, I was paranoid so I stopped it, opened the hood, listened to the motor, everything sounded fine.

I have a vararam and catback for exhaust. Oddly I never got a CEL when I installed the vararam nor felt the car wasn't running properly so it hasn't been in for a tune. I've been planning on doing the tune when I install the nitrous.

I'm also missing my air dam but it's my understanding that only cools the motor (and my temp stayed pretty low regardless).

Is my imagination just getting the best of me or could it have been drag? If it was the motor I'd imagine I'd have felt something again, but I've even been WOT a couple times (only very briefly) and no issues at all.

I'm wondering if you were knocking and you're getting some sort of plug/wire miss.

My Vararam will give me low speed hesitations every now and then, but at high speed it always shines.

It sounds like you only tried it once. I'd try it again and see if it happens again, does it happen in the same place in RPM, in MPH, on the track?

It could easliy have been an anomoly. I've only been up that high a couple times and honestly, every little thing that happended scared the heck out of me.

Uploading it now -will post a link shortly. My passenger captured video. Seems around 100, 110 and 120 it hesitated.

And I only tried it once, like you I didn't feel very comfortable with those speeds. I was also pretty surprised to notice the car felt very light after probably 130. I expected it to stay closer to the ground at speed.

If your car is a 6 speed and you were in 6th gear, you were running out of steam. Top speed is attained in 5th gear.

A4, third gear went to 160 I believe on the dyno so I should have had plenty left.

I'm pretty sure it was 160... 2.73 gears, A4.

It has been a few months but I remember him being really nervous because on his dyno he had to do a 3rd gear pull to get accurate #s since it was an auto and he went good god, 160 on this thing is scary as hell.

Hmmm... Maybe. I haven't driven an A4 in a long time, but I'm 99% sure that I was at 100MPH when my A4 went to 4th gear in the 1/4.

Yeah that's way off Maybe you had different gears?

I'm not sure what the speeds are for each gear, but 1st alone goes to 55 I believe? When I audox'd it I stayed in 1st the entire time and I believe I tapped the rev limiter at 55.

It had 3.23s. But that's not that much off from 2.73s when it comes to top speed:

2.73 to 3.23 is 15.4% difference.

100 / 0.846 = 118MPH

I don't know what to tell you

I am positive it was at least 150 in 3rd -i think it was 160 though (this was on the dyno).

And to be honest I really don't understand how gearing works aside from lower #s = higher top end and higher numbers = more power down low (I am probably be off, I really don't understand gearing at all).

What is that in question to? The hesitation I perceived or the max speed of 3rd gear on an A4?
