Up on piers
Hello everyone. I finally went out to look at dieseldaves Z06 and to my surprise he has made piers and SOMEHOW put the car up on them. My question is how to get the car down. I know he has told me that it is easy to tweak a corvette so extreme care is needed in order to return the car to the ground. My friend wants to call Les Schwab tire and have them come out and get the car down. I don't know who to trust with my darlings baby. I am keeping his and have already sold mine to a friend. Any suggestions on how he might want the car lowered to the ground?

RIP Dave

First off sorry about your loss.
Now, If it were me I would take a floor jack with a 2x4 across the top and to the cross member in the rear and jack it up a bit to remove the rear blocks and then lower it very slowly.
As for the front I would do the same way, But I would have a 2 inch block to lower it onto so you can get the jack out.
Hope that helps.

Just to clarify the cross members are the centrally located areas on the front and rear of the car. Looking at the construction of the piers,,I'm going to guess there is some spare pieces of lumber,,looks like most of the legs were 2X4.For the 2"blocks Bill mentioned,,2 or 3 short pieces of 2x4 or 1 or 2 pieces of wider pieces will do. Standard lumber sizes of the 2' are 2x4,2x6,,8,,10 and 12 inches wide. A single piece of wider 2" would be more convenient to use,,but not mandatory. You will only actually need a piece about a foot or so long. After seeing the piers,,I'm sure Dave was a DIY guy,,so I'm sure the jack and wood scraps will be around some place!!
Condolences on your loss,,he was way too young,,and good luck with your project. I'm sure he is smiling down knowing you are taking care of his "other baby",,and that you are going to the forum for tips to get her down!!I know I'd be proud of my wife if she did that!!
I hope you don't find this insensitive and I'm sorry for your loss.
I was looking for a picture of the proper jacking using the '2x6 to cradle' method (pictures better than words), so I looked in the "tech how to stickies"- 'How to properly jack up your car' and I found a post from your husband that showed these piers.
He said he used 2 floor jacks and the jacking pucks, he put one jack on each side at the rear and was able to lift it the 16" high required to slip the piers in and out. There must be 2 floor jacks and the pucks there somewhere?
You may have to set a 2x block under the tire when the jacks come down, if the jacks aren't low enough to pull out when the car is on the concrete.

If I lived near you I would come over with a small group of the CF locals and put the car on the ground for you. We would take great care while doing this and treat it as if it was our own. I would like to think a few of our members who do live nearby can do the same too.

I will post when I get back you guys. The car is in at my home in central Oregon. You guys really are great. I would let you go and do it without me home but I put a alarm on Dave's garage along with the house while I'm gone. I hated to leave but needed to get away for awhile and collect myself. Dave would be proud of his corvette buddys though...really!

Best of luck

You're a lunch-time drive away, and I have friends in Sisters that I'd love to drop by and see going or coming back.
Be well!
