I am negotiating a price on a 2001 C5, 6-speed coupe (targa) with 75,000 miles. It's in pretty good shape except for needing new tires. The asking price is at $17,000. Can anyone tell me if this is a good price?
Seems high to me but you do not say where you are located.
This last January I bought a loaded near mint condition 2001 A4 Vert with a complete service record and with nearly new Michelin ZP Tires from the original owner for $13,000.

I would say based on Kelley Blue Book it is a little high if you are working with a private seller. I would try $15,500 and you can go up if it is a private seller, but I would stick at $16,000. Retail it list in the Blue Book at $17825, so that is about right for a dealer.
I also checked the Auto Trader for my area and the prices are much higher then the KBB for private and retail, but then again those prices are there to see what is biting.
I agree $13,000 for a roadster is way low. I would love to know the actual milage and the car history. I wouls say that is almost $10K below retail.
I found a 2008 C6 black coupe for $30K which was low, but the Car Fax showed it was in an accident with a wall and wiped out the right rear quarter panel. That will lower the price on a Corvette in a heart beat.

Just over 80k. The people bought the car when they retired to Tucson and got it mainly for touring so the miles came in bunches. The maintenance records at the dealership where they bought it at when new and had all the work done at showed many times that they had the oil changed within a 30 to 60 day time frame and they racked up 5-6000 miles during that month or two period.
They had maintained it to perfection and had everything done just like clock work even down to multiple cooling system flushes, brake fluid replacement, trans serviced and on and on.
It still had the original brake pads on the car when I got it and I decided that it was time for a brake job. To my amazement the pads could have easily gone another 10-20K miles and the rotors were barely worn and no scoring or warping.
I have owned about 25 Vettes and have found that miles is not the killer it is poor maintenance or abuse. If I cannot see a clear verifiable maintenance record on a car I will not buy it no matter what the mileage shows.
Here are a couple of pics I took about a month ago of the car.

My son is with Mercedes Benz and use to be with Chevy and he checked it over and it was clean and he also ran a Carfax on it and it came back clean with no problems anywhere.
The paint is 100% original and the car looks and drives like new. I have owned 25 Vettes over the last 50 years and I know how and what to check before buying a Corvette.
Well at that price you are lucky that you are not in jail for Grand Theft Auto. Great buy and I am assuming the previous owners have not had Corvettes in the past, or they have a lot of money and they were not worried about giving the car away.

Retired Attorney and his wife was a real estate broker so not short on money. They actually traded in a 89 Vert on this car.
When they bought it they dropped another $7,500 on audio equipment, exhaust, built in K40 laser/radar system and more before they took delivery.
The real funny part is that they were selling the car because their tree hugging daughter up in Phoenix thought that they should be more responsible and get something that was more energy efficient like a Toyota Prius.
Cash talks and they just were tired of people that wanted the car but wanted to trade something in or have them finance the car.
It's a buyers market now and getting a lot harder to finance used cars!
Damn! You got a heck of a deal!!! I live in Pittsburgh, PA and haven't seen any priced under $16,500 for the year, model and miles (75 K) I am looking at, unless they have a salvage title. Thanks for your input!

Just be patient, if you are in a hurry you will end up paying way more that you need to. When you make an offer be very sure you are comfortable with it and stick with it. You always have to be prepared to walk away.
Here is another photo of the car with the top down that I took this last Saturday when I was up on Mt Lemmon at the Ski area enjoying the 72 degree weather.

I agree 100% about being patient, but the deal you got does not come along often. You have to admit, that what you paid was way under the true value of the vehicle. So don't let the OP think that these are common values and she will find one like you did.
You certainly have a beautiful Vette! I linked a picture of the one I am dealing on. I had a 1995 triple black 6-speed, convertible with 25,000 miles that I bought for $19,500 in 2004. Sorry I sold it! Anyhow, I really like this yellow one, particularly because it has the red interior which is not too common. I have been looking for 2 months and anything I find with lower mileage is at least 20,000 or more (same model, etc.). I am in law enforcement and the guy with the car for sale is also a cop, so I would like to believe he wouldn't try to pull one over on "one from the same family" LOL!

I agree it was a very good deal but that is why I bought it. They had originally told me that $16k was their bottom dollar but I refused to budge and told them I was still looking and that they could have the money within 15 minutes of accepting my offer of $13k. Five days later they emailed me that it was a deal and I had the car just after lunch before they changed their mind.
I sold my Pace Car Vert a couple of months back so have been looking to buy a C6 vert that will complete my ownership of every chassis from C1-C6.
I just missed about 2 weeks ago by a few minutes a 2006 C6 Vert near me with a clean carfax and around 35 thousand miles that went for $23,000 . The guy had listed it for more but just could not wait any longer and priced it to move and it sold that day, so the deals are there if you remain vigilant and can jump on them when they come up.
Heck my first Vette in high school was a nice 53 Vette that I paid $500 for and the next one was a 57 Fuely with both tops that I got for $1,400, now looking back those were a really good deal!

Nice vert! I miss trips to the ski area's in the summer time.

I see you have a 2001 Magnetic Red with Oak Vert. That is my favorite color combo and what I had been looking for but the Pewter and Oak has grown on me after owning it for 6 months.
