The only thing i don't like is the petcock valve on the bottom. When it is all the way open their is no way to get something underneath it to catch the oil.
Someone Suggested just putting in a open valve running some line from that with a open/close butterfly valve then some more line so you could drain it into a oil pan while changing the car oil.
I can't believe how much oil was in that thing must of been at least 3 0z after about 1200 miles of driving.

earlier suggestion of using a turkey baster sounds good. Also does the foam need to be cleaned or replaced?

Just rinse it off every once in a while. The filter material will be here long after we are all gone
Also, if you do not want to mess with the petcock, you can take some paper towels, roll them up, stick it in the can and just soak it up. One shot does the trick...

It's probably 1/8" pipe thread on the petcock valve. Remove and replace with an 1/8" pipe plug.
I had one for a couple of years now... got it from a forum vendor (name excapes me but send me a PM for them). I've taken it apart a couple of times both times I drained 3-4 oz of oil out of the can so I'd say it works great.
So do yall recomend them even for a bone stock c5z or just cars with mods?
My Z16 is w/o mods. I have an ELITE ENGINEERING USA catch can on mine. I check it with each oil change and find approx. 1-2 tablespoons of oil trapped.
It's not much and some naysayers would argue it's not worth the money and effort. But it's worth it to me to keep even that much oil out of the intake manifold.
I installed my catch can yesterday and today the check engine light was on. I went to a car show tonight and on way home it went out. ever happen to anyone else ? I never checked codes before so....just asking.
will do...and by the way ...after 100 mile drive down the shore the rear is much cleaner than before the catch can was installed...granted the humidity is much lower today but on Route 37 east the outside temp read 105 !
Hope it continues to stay cleaner..

Yes it amazes me how much oil is removed and can accumulate in the bottom of our Catch Can. I'm like you, I would rather have this contained and removed than to find it's way into my intake.

I have the Elite Catch can, and it definitely does it's job. I drive "spirited" at times, but mostly highway driving, and find several ounces of oil on a regular basis. My favorite feature of the Elite can is the ease of emptying it. Just unscrew the bottom! You cannot beat Elites quality either. First rate!
Interesting points. Today, I just ordered a black catch can from CCA so I hope to save a little oil from getting in my motor. It will be interesting to see what has been getting in there in the past. AND if it keeps the black dots off the tail on my yellow vette, then it will be worth it!
