Default Hawk brake pads

Our corvette club has a race day in a few weeks and i'm looking at upgrading my brake pads to Hawk HP-Plus.

Is anybody using these? Some feedback appreciated.

Thats what im running on my car w/drilled and slotted rotors, the car stops on a dime, has no brake dust, and no fade, i highly recommend them.

Those were recommended by PowerSlot when I bought my rotors. While they are excellent pads, the OEM pads should not be underestimated. Test after test confirmed that GM really knew what they were doing when they specified those pads. The only downside is that they may leave uneven deposits on blank (non-slotted) rotors. Fortunately, slotted rotors allow you to use any pads, including OEMs with fantastic results.

There was a great write-up on high performance driving events - lessons learned by forum member Zenak back in '09. A search should turn up the post. It has some good info in there on various brake pads for competitive events.

That's interesting. I'm running Hawk HPS pads on my car and they dust terribly. I was told that the HP-Plus pads dust are even worse. Maybe whoever gave me the info had it backwards. He supposedly knew what he was talking about, however.

I recently switched from ceramics to hawk HPS and the difference is night and day, hawks being way superior in stopping distance, no fade, and very little dust. In fact I was expecting a maintenance issue, but the pads give off hardly any dust...the confidence factor is way high coming into a curve or up to a light or stop sign...I like to see how close I can get before hitting the brakes...

A good buddy af mine lost his Brakes at the Track into his 3rd session and he was using the HPS's and it was his first time on a road course. Two totally different braking environments Track and the Street...

Depending on how many sessions you're going to be running and how fast you'll be driving of course but at a minimum I'd get good fluid Motul 600 or Wildwood and SS lines...

Be safe and good luck!

HPS=Good dual purpose, street/track
HP Plus=Better stopping power and can be used on the street too.
It's what I use.

If you are worried about about brake dust, then don't go to the track. Both Hawk pads will produce more dust than the stock pads. Ceramics are the best for no dust, but DO NOT use them at the track.

Whatever pad you use, I highly recommend you flush your current fluid and use a DOT 4 brake fluid.

Have fun, it's a BLAST!

Thatwould be me!

SAVE your money, do not buy these IMO. I would never own another set... They squeal on the street when hot and SUCK on the track... awful brake fade and completely went on me also! Check out EBC Yellow Stuff

Default Hawk HP-Plus Brake pads

Thank you all for your feedback.
Our corvette club hires 2 different race tracks per year for a day each and we race 6 cars on the track at a time for safety. So mostly we dont race that often. From your replies I will be fitting a set of Hawk HP-Plus pads and it sounds like I should get a set of drilled and slotted rotors to go with them as well as changing to a better brake fluid.

you do not want drilled rotors and if you are going to be tracking the car you do NOT want the HPS pads... just trying to save you money, time, and potential failure. They are NOT a pad for the track!
