Default corvette woes

So yeah ive been working on my vette as of lately and got paranoid about the whole battery thing, so i finally got the courage to rip apart my car tonight only to discover this

the parts im holding in my hand are from the ecu housing that bolts to the frame, it just snaped, i couldnt even get a wrench on the tiny bolt from all the rust, as of now i got the ecu connections covered and got the ecu in my house awaiting dissassembly, hopefully tommorow i got to pick up a few tools some primer and paint, look for a new ecu housing also, man what a project...... oh and i forgot a bolt in the fender by the door and snaped that off under/near the door!

Well it happens and it is common on most Vettes.

The way you are going about it correct and it'll be all back together in no time and you'll be whizzzzzing down the road

Thanks,Matt

While this was common with 97-2000 C5s, it is very rare after 2001, since batteries made since then have much more durable cases.

Almost any battery you can buy now will never leak during its lifetime.

I'm real sorry for your battery damage. I read about this problem here on the forum back in around 2000 but I really pay it any attention till I bought my 2003. After a year of ownership I got nervous, and swapped out the AC Delco with a Optima Red Top. Haven't lost any sleep since then. But Good Luck with your situation, looks bad.

I would clean & neutralize that acid with baking soda and water.

The case was pretty corroded but no inside damage, couldn't clean it my self so I had somebody bead blast the cases, I will treat them accordingly, I'm working overtime all week but have Friday off so I should be able to get the frame preped and painted the same day, just waiting on the black housings now.
