hmm. I think you better sell it now before the word gets out on a car forum of some sort about using lower octane gas in your vette causing the retail value of ALL vettes to plummet!

I agree with al the above as long as you are running the stock tune and do not have FI/nitrous.

there's nothing wrong using lower grade gas if you keep your foot out of it, but keep in mind if you give it too much gas and get knock, the knock sensors kick in and the PCM will start pulling timing till it goes away. You want to use premium grade to keep from getting knock, especially when it gets real hot outside.

The car will run fine - the owners manual says premium is recommended but lower octane can be used. Just drive it a little less aggressive and when it gets low replace the fuel with premium.

i think you should probably sell the car as it will never run right again. The only thing that will ever get it back to normal would be a full engine tear-down and rebuild, plus nitrogen flush all the fuel supply and return lines, replace all the evap canisters and any and all of check values, pressure regulators, pumps, injectors.

Tell her THANKS A LOT BEATCH - then throw her out of the house with the kids, dogs, cats clothes, furniture and washer dryer.

Go rent a one bedroom apartment and become a creeper staring at little children in your bathrobe.

Problem solved.

Damn I wish I could use that on the wife but I have mistakenly put 87 in the Vette before only to bitch myself out when getting back in. She was laughing so hard she was crying.

I mix 89 with 93 all the time, especially when Shell 93 gets way jacked up around here. the 89 and the 87 costs the same here most of the time.

Default Me too...almost

I have only had my 04 since May and fueled up only twice. However, I took the wife to Corvette Homecoming at Bowling Green last weekend and stopped to fuel up before leaving. I habitually reached for the mid-range setting since I use it in my daily driver F-150 but caught myself just before pressing the button for 87 grade!! I didn't have to say anything to her about it since she absolutely REFUSES to drive the vette at anytime. Guess I'm getting old.

Tell her that the engine is probably "trashed" but it can be saved! A set of "3.73" gears and a custom tune may just keep it from total destruction, That is if it also gets a cold air intake to insure the "fix" will work! Also, a case of your favorite brew would help ease your nerves during this crisis.....
just trying to help, Dave

I run the LS1,LS2,LS3, Viper and 5 HD motorcycles all on 89 which is the low grade in this area. All run great.

One of the Corvette's most famous engineers stated at Funfest during a seminar on performance tuning that unless you are on the track or drag strip that you are wasting $ on 91 or more octane.

You will get better mileage and starting with 87/89.
