Default My car is a prototype??

So I was at ECS the other day getting some stuff done. They tell me my car has some unique stuff on it, stuff they never have seen of all the C5's that come into the shop. So Mike there took some pictures for me.

The most noticeable is the oil pan. It's flat.

Others have a square type of pattern in the pan. Also the fans are smaller than others.

In this shot you'll notice the piece below the sway bar has an extra angled piece of metal to the right of those 2 bolts. I believe that was on the front and back. There were all sorts of other little things they found too.

So I decided to do some research. I called up National Corvette Museum and talked with Betty who was extremely nice and helpful. I gave her the VIN on my car and she found some stuff about it. The car was a prototype "pilot" car built before production. I believe she said there were 85 made. It was assigned to Jim Engels group and went to many speedways such as Las Vegas, Bowling Green, Road Atlanta where it was showed to the public. She is still doing more detective work for me and is just as excited to find out more as I am.

Anyone else on here notice this on their car?

Now I can say I truly have a unique C5

Figured I add a few recent pics of my baby...

Wow that is cool. I am surprised that it was ever sold. Usually those mull cars are never titled and either get destroyed or go the the GM collection. I would really be interested in when GM/Chevrolet sold it and to who, plus how many owners have had it.

Keep us posted.

Ya thats what I have been reading after doing some google searches on prototype corvettes. Like you said I saw that most get destroyed. I believe Betty said that the VIN was changed thats why it was taking longer to find all the info. So she is just as interested in finding out whats up with it as I am. According to the records from a local chevy dealer it looked like it had 3 owners, me being the 3rd.

I think there's a personlized license plate in there somewhere.... "1 of 85" or "PRTOTYP"
