At a show last night we had 4 vettes side by side. When I unlock my (w/remote) 98 the backup lights come on. When my three buddies unlock theirs (99, 01, 02) the backup lights come on along with the taillights. Is that something GM changed in 99? Can a couple of 98 owners run out to the garage and check for me? Thanks.
If you choose APPROACH LIGHTS ON, the fog lamps,
front turn signal, rear back-up and courtesy lamps will
come on for 30 seconds when you press UNLOCK on
the remote keyless entry transmitter. This will occur
only when it is dark outside
Like theirs, my 02 brings on the tails as well as the back up lamps (mine has Euro tails). Interested to hear if its different on the 98s

My '03 does the same as your's DeeGee. Never had a '98 but did have a '99. Can't remember how those worked but my '00 also turned on the rear lights.

it bugs me when mine doesn't turn the lights on any time because knowing that its a corvette the first thing that comes to mind is "great, another electrical problem I have to fix" and not "its working the way it should, enough light = no need to turn the lights on"
is there anything blocking the sensor on your dash? its very sensitive, even a sticker or something like that casting a shadow on the sensor would likely cause it to think its too dark out. or the sensor may be faulty.
