Default Leaking Coolant Tank

I have an 03 Z06 and recently I found a small (2~3" across) puddle of coolant under the car. I looked everything over and it appears that the gasket on the top half of the coolant is the source of the leak. The engine maybe got up to 245 degrees but nothing too bad, and the coolant generally doesn't reach that high in the tank, so i thought it odd to leak from that point. Also have to say from an engineering standpoint, not a great tank design.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I have a 01 I bought new. I have had to replace tank, cap, as well as radiator due to leaks. All have been done within the last 3 years.

I had the same problem on my 97 several years ago. Definitely not a great design. Hope you get it fixed.

Maybe before you start replacing parts, go step-by-step. checlk the small hoses that protrude from the sides of the tank, the small clamps, check to see if the hoses are pushed all the way on the tank ,with the clamps secure. Then the radiator cap. If its original , it could be bad. I had that problem. The tank itself is fairly expensive,($100+), so troubleshooting everything else first is a good deal. The cap is about $8+. good luck.

I can actually see the spot where it leaked from and it is between the two pieces of the tank. I wonder if there is a seal in between the two halves that can be replaced. I'll have to check it out further. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Yeah its a one piece unit. If the tank is cracked its gotta be replaced. I would take a look at the parts forums, Ebay, Amazon, maybe you can get it cheaper.
