I've narrowed my choices to a 2003 Z06 (stock) with 25K miles or a Z51 2005 with 38K miles and the following modifications:
1. Dynatech SuperMAXX 1 7/8" Stainless Steel Headers w/ high flow cats: $1,694.98 (Part) + $350 (Labor)= $2,044.98 plus tax,
2. SLP Exhaust: $749.00 (Part) + $100 (Labor)= $849.00 plus tax,
3. VaraRam C6 Corvette Ram Air System: $369.00 (Part) + $150.00 (Labor) = $519.00 plus tax,
4. Airaid Performance Air Filter: $49.99 plus tax,
5. Hawk Ceramic Performance Brake Pads (Front and Rear): $178.98 (Part) + $100.00 (Labor)= 278.98 plus tax,
6. SLP Thermostat, 160 Degree: $29.95 (Part) + $50.00 (Labor)= $79.95 plus tax
7. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2: $1562.00 plus tax,
8. GM Transparent (Glass) Roof Panel Top: $1,495.00 (Part) plus tax, 9. Corvette C6 Stormproof Car Cover Gray-Black: $329.95 (Part) plus tax
The 2003 Z06 is going for $26K and the C6 is going for $28K. Love to hear some opinions about value, which is quicker, handles better, etc. Looking forward to owning either. I've always wanted one. Not a big racer, but might take it to the track to lay down some times, but nothing serious.
I'd go for the Z because of the lower miles and stock setup -- you could always use the $2k difference to add some headers etc to the Z.
The Z06 is going to handle better and feel racier. The 05 with those mods is likley to have been run pretty hard.
The Z owner is at the top of the price range and the C6 is at the bottom. Personally I would buy the C6 and sell the mods if you want a stock car. Just me though.
The difference is acceleration and handling isn't big enough to matter.

Usually when someone asks for purchasing advice here, one of the first pieces of advice given is, "buy the lowest mileage car that you can afford." You may want to consider that, but in the end I think it's really going to come down to personal preference, as the two cars are considerably different from one another. If it were me, I'd drive both of them, and see which one I liked the best. I'd also pay close attention to all of the little details (stone chips, interior wear, etc.). One thing often stated here about mods is that they don't really add much to the resale value of a car. In fact, they can actually hurt the resale value. Another factor to consider is the quality of the installation work done on the modified car. Just a few thoughts.
