I have a 2005 Corvette coupe. It has 62,000 miles on it and I have been the only owner of the vehicle. I have heard some grinding when I make turns (differential?) and have recently noticed it was losing some traction on wet roads (never did that before and tires only have about 4,000 miles. I took it into a Chevrolet dealer and they suggested a new cabin air filter for $68.10, dual air filters on front engine for $89,96, front brakes $360.09, transmission flush $193.86, fuel service cleansing $299.64, differential drain and replace with special additive for grinding $159.95 and new wipers for $76.35. I am suspicious of some of the pricing and basis for the work as they suggested new wipres and I had my son install new RainX wipers about four months ago and they are working fine. I sense they are trying to hose me. Any comments on what I should do? I am having my wife contact our local Tire Kingsdom franchise as they did some good work on her truck a while ago. Thanks for your assistance..... Larry Boecklen

Hey Larry - this should probably be posted in the C6 General section rather than C5 section, but if all you took the car in for was the grinding noise, I'd have to say they are trying to sell you a lot of stuff you may or may not need. If the car is running OK otherwise, the fuel system cleaning, tranny flush, wipers, and air filter (depending on what the old ones look like), are suspicious. Have you ever replaced the brakes or do you know what they look like now? The differential drain and fill may be a solution to your problem, but if I were you I would definitely get a second opinion before you commit to all that work.

i'd run from the dealer also. sound to me like the only potentially (and i'd guess not really) suggested work would be the drain and refill for the $159.95. most of the rest you can accomplish with your own trip to the local autozone, NAPA, discount auto, etc and your own qualified mechanic at probably a fraction of the cost quoted assuming the work was even really needed.
you may get lucky and find that you have a leaky butt and the only problem you have is the seal and a low level of differential fluid (not providing sufficient lub).
