Just bought a C5 2002 with 71k on it. I want to do plugs wires filter and change the oil.... What plugs and what wires? Also My car runs pretty hot (235 degrees) how can I cool it down? any fan mods?

Also how does the stock catback with headers and cats sound? which intake should I get?

I run my A/C to keep the car at a cool 190 F as when the A/C is on, both fans are always on.

Without A/C my car runs hot

Also, you likely have debris in your radiator. You will need to clean it.
I am sure someone will chime in on how is the best way

Iridium plugs, GMPP red wires(get them from Gene at GMpartshouse.com)
As for the temps, have your computer re-tuned to turn the fans on at a lower temp, and switch out the thermo for a 160 T-stat.
Congrats on your vette, drive it like it was meant to be driven, but always drive it responsibily.

Try blowing the crap out of the radiator with an air compressor with a soft tip adapter, i have a K&N dual air intake very easy to install, and only $300.00, for exhaust i have a Bassani street/comp system it's one of the louder ones around $1,000.00.

Congrats man...nice car Lots of help here.....All items named so far are good...Check clutch fluid (if 6 speed)......Check air pressure in tires (Yeah, don't ask me why)....Mod to stock filter housing will aid air flow....Fans can also be changed to come on sooner to aid temp.....There are additives that may also help.....Foremost and first item will be to learn it's idiosyncrasies when driving....Best of luck with the project........

Plugs: NGK TR5, pre-gapped at .040 or TR55, pre-gapped at .050, NGK calls for the TR5 but some use the wider gapped TR55: also note that the copper core TR series have a shorter life than Iridium plugs, but copper cores provide a better spark.
Wires: GMPP red wires(get all your AC Delco/GM parts from Gene at GMpartshouse.com)
PCV: AC Delco or if you're driving hard, get a catch can!
Air Filter: Do you have a stock box? K&N for any application anyway
Fuel Filter: AC Delco, kinda a PITA to get at...it's on the left frame rail under the car near the Trans
Oil: Mobil 1, oil cap says in all, you need 6.5 qts., ...be sure to lift the rear higher than the front to drain ALL the oil.
Oil Filter: AC Delco

Start by draining and refilling the coolant and change the T-Stat. Check the air intake under the front bumper for debris stuck on the radiator. If you have a blow gun, then back blow the radiator and condensor from underneath the hood toward the front of the car. See if this helps...it did for me!

I have a Fact. Intake and Exh. Manifolds, Fact. Cats., (I may get Long Tubes w/cats soon)...Currently have a Borja X-Pipe and XS Power Cat Back exhaust. Great system, great price and no drone! I'm not too familiar with any good intake manifolds, if that's what you're refering to and not an air intake...but I'd imagine to gain a noticeable difference you should get a tune after installing.

this is what i run.

plugs-NGK TR55
wires-MSD SC 8.5 mm wires
intake-Blackwing
Exhaust- flowmaster with x-pipe

all really good stuff but i wouldnt choose the flowmaster exhaust. it came with my car. I would reccomend B&B, GHL, Borla, Corsa, etc for exhaust systems and ARH or LG pro longtubes.

For plugs and wires, I'd recommend the AC Delco Iridiums and GMPP red wires - both available from gmpartshouse.com at a good price.

For the warm temp, look to see if there is any debris in front of the radiator area - these cars suck up stuff into there which restricts air flow.

I am looking for a fan mod to turn the fans on while the car is on if possible. I remember seeing something on the forum but for the life of me I can't find it, anyone able to shed some light on what I can do?

Heres a link for the C5 cool-it. The C5 Fangs are also worth looking at to protect the front skid bars.

My setup:

MSD wires
NGK plugs
Halltech CAI
B&B exhaust
computer tune.

Then you can get into wheels, tires, brakes, paint the calipers, lower it, shocks, sways, yada yada.... the addiction is fun until you finish all the bolt ons and start looking at the big $ items... ENJOY!!!!!

I would recommend the blackwing with a perf. air bridge.

I found the Halltech, and AFE's filter has a 4 inch opening which (atleast for me) I couldn't get a good seal on the MAF. just my .02

Also look for trash / debris between the radiator and the A/C condenser. the plastic upper radiator support comes off easily and then you can get into that space to clean it up.

Congratulations! I hope you have self control... I would have lost my driver's license if I had a vette when I was 20. Anyway, crawl under the front bumper and look to see what is up there. I found leaves, grass and even twigs... Becareful and get that crap out of there. It will help cool it down. And turn on the A/C if it gets really hot under the hood.

Have fun!
