This happened to me when the rivet on holding the battery tray clip nut broke. I had to remove the battery and reach down in there and feel around until I found it.
If it slid down toward the passenger footwell, you might have to pull the passenger's side front tire and access cover to reach it.
When I was doing the battery leak repair on my car, I removed the access panel and found 2 battery terminal bolts down there and a couple of other washers, etc that had been dropped.

And if for some strange reason it still cannot be found, take the front pass tire off, remove the lower portion of the rear fender liner, and you have access to the entire area under the battery tray.
When changing plugs I dropped a 3" extention behind the battery and I removed the battery tray and the liner and have yet to find the thing!!!
Tried the magnet trick too but it kept sticking to the sides..
