Sounds like the head lamp motor is going south. Very typical problem with this motor as it has not changed since 1984!.

The plastic gear inside breaks down and the options are rebuilt the motor with a brass gear (under $30 + time) or replace the motor ($160. plus a little time).

Do a search in C5 General for headlamp motor gear and you'll find plenty of info including instructions on how to service it. Might as well plan on doing the other side they usually go about a month or two apart.

Do you have the owner's manual? If not there are places to download a PDF version.

If you want the individual dealer brochures, join NCM (National Corvette Museum or not) and order the factory window sticker and dealer brochures for '01 and your vin.

Review the pages on this sticky and you'll be more informed.

Welcome!

Thanks Brother! I'd seen this fix a couple of times and was hoping that was not it....LOL. I live in Oklahma and it's to dang hot right now to do anything, I'll order those gears and get this going....this is my first Vette and I'm learing that alll things Vette are not simple....also if it has a Vette emblem on it, it'll be expensive!!!

Here's a link for a real original owners manual:

Owner's manual

and the factory service manuals for 2001 Corvettes:

Bible

The factory service manual set is a requirement for those who intend to do your own degree of work. It's the first thing for that Vette I buy. (You'll find it is worth it's weight in gold.)

Sure

PM me with an email address and I'll send you the PDF version of the owner's manual. You can find things quicker in the electronic version
