interior lights/park lights problem

My interior lights and park lights just come on sometimes. I have to wiggle the switch back and forth several times before they come on. Over time its getting worse and worse and are almost not coming on at all. I took my dash apart somewhat and noticed a raw wire running to the switch. Looked as though it had melted all the coating off the wire a long time ago. Scared me to death.
I replaced the wire with a new one and nothing changed. Is there a way to fix the switch i have? Do I need a new one? And where can i find one best priced?

Is the switch you refer to the park light/headlight switch?
If so, they are well known for failing and can cause all types of weird symptoms. There are plenty of how tos out there to guide you through the job. The one below is good. I'd contact one of the Forum parts vendors for the best price. I use Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet.
