The June 2009 GM4718M standard lists Mobil1 0W-30, so I thought I would give it a try. BLUF = the average on my daily drive went from 22.4 mpg to 24.8 (an increase of 10%). My daily drive is 56 miles. I start at 2,600’ elevation, drive up the hill to 4,200’ elevation and then back to 2,600’. This first part is 63 mph (cruise on) for 20 miles the next part of the drive is 8 miles of city driving, then reverse to go home. I have been doing this drive for a year and switched to 0W-30 1,000 miles ago. I “do the math” at every fill-up and these numbers are verified. I don’t have any financial or other interest in Mobil1…your mileage may vary. My ride is a stock 03 convertible with an A4, K&N filter and Hypertech tune.
My preference is for Mobil 1. Actually, Advanced Auto Parts has that same sale going on too, they are just around the corner from my house, but their Castrol was 26.99 for a the 5 qts of synthetic and a filter. I think there were several options on filters too. That is the sale they will run from time to time but use Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter instead. Just not this time. It must be some kind of national sale by one manufacturer vs another because seems like every parts store right now has the same sale on Castrol with filter same pricing.
My boy was born with Mobil 1 and so he shall continue to receive Mobil 1, as long as I'm the master.
My experience with Mobil 1 was examining the teardown of my brother's Ford Turbo Coupe engine after 140K and it was like new inside. He exclusively used Mobil 1 in it. He had a valve go bad or something like that as for the reason for the engine work. That was quite a few years ago (early 90's).
I think we've started something...potato chips big bag were 11.75 oz, now suddenly down to 11 oz...only a thrifty shopper will notice this while the companies just get richer.
I work for Frito Lay, and it's not only the company that's getting richer, it's me too! Keep buying those chips guys, you all helped pay for my Z06 and I just ordered new wheels and tires that I have to pay for, so buy up cuz Labor day is almost here and it's one of the biggest chip weekends we have!

For those that don't know, BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front)
I have been getting them on sale from COSTCO as well, but 21 dollars is awesome.
I do not understand why some owners take it upon themselves to decide their own grade of oil to use. The GM manual only recommends 5w-30 or 10W30 viscosity for stock LSx engines.
