Default Hi performance driving schools?

Have anyone here been to a hi-performance driving school? I'm thinking I'd like to do something different. I have been to Defensive Driving course not too long ago, but I was wondering if one of the hi-performance schools could teach and 60 YO some new techniques. Anyone can point me in the right direction ? Thank you.

I see you live in Southeast PA. I do as well. I started going to Bertil Roos Racing School last year. They are located in Blakeslee, the Pocono's. They are just 2 miles away from Pocono Raceway. They have what is called a Performance Driving Clinic. This is for folks who have higher HP vehicles and want to learn how to truly drive them. This is a 10 hour day and starts with a visit to their office at 8am. You leave there and go to the track and go through a 1 hour class. Once that is over you get into a Malibu with two other drivers and an instructor. They show you the layout of the track and point out all your braking zones and apexes. They then have each driver go around the course 2 times each. Once this is complete you get in your car and do the course on your own. Instructors join you throughout your first hour for 15 minutes helping you. This happens all throughout the day. You end up getting 3 1 hour slots of time on the track. This is a lot of seat time and very enjoyable. At 5pm you do a track walk with Dennis the President of the school, this ends at 6pm and you head back to the office to do a final debrief. Total cost for the day is 495.00.

I feel this is money well spent and a heck of a good time. I was able to hit 135 coming out of turn 3 before hitting the braking zone with a stock C6 Z51. The day had 4 Vettes 2 of them were C5's, 4 Porche's, Lotus, BMW M5, Aston Martin, Infiniti G37 and a few others I can not recall. Total cars on the Novice hour were 11 and 6 on the Solo hours.

Feel free to PM me if you want more information on this option.

I can tell you there are cheaper ways to get seat time on a track more like 200-300 but you do not get as much seat time in a day. With clubs you also tend to get experienced but not professional drivers teaching you. YMMV.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Killian,

It's good to hear your are looking to really improve your driving skills. Might I suggest Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch.

This 3-day program takes you from the basics like heel-toe down shifting, threshold braking, car control and proper racing line, just to name a few. You will be amazed at how quickly you progress. You will learn in our C6 Grand Sports and Z06 Corvettes.

We teach the course on our 2.2 mile loop. It's a fantastic track that combines fast straights with sweeping corners, fast esses, technical turns and elevation changes. Turns 1 and 8 are high speed turns specifically designed to help teach braking to balance (AKA trail braking). It's a very exciting track, you will learn something new on every lap.

Our facilities are second to none. In addition to being one of the finest tracks in North America, Spring Mountain is home to the premier motorsports country club, Club Spring Mountain. While a student, you are treated as a member. You have access to our resort-style clubhouse that includes plush seating, locker rooms, fitness center, pool, jacuzzi, business center, wireless internet, 9 plasma TVs with feeds from the track, pool table, poker table, indoor racquet ball court and indoor gun range just to name a few. We also have a massage therapy room with on call therapist. If you plan on bringing family, you won't find a more comfortable and inviting environment.

We are located just 45 minutes from Las Vegas in the town of Pahrump, NV.

I hope this helps. Feel free to PM or email me if you have any questions.

Ken
