Just took the car, 01 A4 convertible, to a local muffler shop to take my exhaust off and install the Z06 Tis I purchased from another forum member, I watched as they failed to get the passenger side pipe off, said that the A4 transmission is wider than the M6 and would have to cut the pipe to get it out....and they don't weld titanium to do the same to install the new. Has anybody else seen this problem, specifically on A4s
If they lift the car high enough with a 4 post lift and loosen up the sway bar and let it flop down, it takes a little bit wrestling but it will come out......do not let them cut that ti tubing
No lift needed with a 6 spd car since I have done this twice with my Z06 in my garage on jack stands.
The A4 may be different but the swaybar does have to be loosened as already mentioned. Tell them to stop being lazy and do not let them cut the Ti or it'll break within a day or two if not welded back on properly.
I have yet to see a run of the mill muffler shop have that type of equipment on hand to weld Ti correctly.
Didn't know that there were any heat shields back there :o and I think that's what was hanging everything up
I think it was probably a blessing in disguise, they wanted 100 to do it
I'll see if I can't find a place that knows more about Corvettes
Idiots - they do not know what they are doing - you must drop the sway bar and twist it just a little in order to remove it and then swing it down -
There is "NO" need to cut anything at all! Do not let them touch your Vette - get one of the forum members close to you to give you a hand and do it yourself - there is a few posts how to's here on the forum that show pics to do it!

Thanks for all the advice guys
Not sure about the 01 but on the 97 a4 I did not remove any heat shields, the only thing I had to remove was the sway bar which must be completely down and out of the way. I found out the hard way with mn6 I changed them out on, that half inch made all the difference.
You just have to turn and twist the muffler to get it up and over the axle and around the transmission, kinda hard to explain but Ive done it three times now and its still a pain to get the passenger side on/off.
Next time you get your car worked on better make sure they have worked on your year car, so many repair/mod shops say they can do anything, BS! take it to a Corvette specialist or you can get in trouble with some of these shops like you just did!.
