[Z06] C5 Z06 vs. C6

Safety Car
Post this same thread in the C6 section and see what kind of responses you get.. You have posted in the C5 Z06 section. 90% of us c5 z06 owners will agree that an A4 Ls2 is not as fun and a less than raw performer, along with the plain Jane looks.

im 22 and own a 04Z06..with full exhaust.headers.catless X..borla straight pipes..and a vararam..lowered..tints..the works..id take my c5z over a stock c6 all day every day.the c5z feels much like a racecar than a c6.my pops has a c6z and the ride is just boring..only thing exciting is the 427 =)..but i do love the c6 and c6z body
.it would take the same setup as mine to move to a c6

My previous car was a 2004 Z06 and i enjoyed every minute of it, never had a single issue. Now i have a 2008 Z06 and they definitely improved in many areas. I just had to have the 505 horses lol...
I don't think anyone that has driven a C6 Z06 could say the ride is boring, it's a much better car than a C5 Z06 that's for sure. Not just because of the power increase, but the C6 platform was built/put together much better than the C5. Less rattles, squeaks and a much more upgraded interior among a few other things...
But i would take a C5 Z06 over a base C6 anyday, that's for sure.

Was in the same situation as you in 9/07. Almost bought a 2006 Z51 6spd, but checked out a C5Z just to cover all the bases. Welp, after the C5Z test-drive I forgot all about the C6 and went on a search to find the nicest C5Z in my area. I went down to NC and picked up a Z16 w/18K miles and haven't looked back.
Now once C6Zs are in the high $30Ks with 30K miles (another year or two), I'll prolly pick one up...

I personally would stay away from 2005 Vettes. The C5Z is a hell of a better car in almost every way compared to the 05 Vette. Some of that being opinion and some of that being fact.
The C5Z is faster, handles better, feels the road better, is lighter, gets better MPG for the most part, has a stronger diff, doesn't have the electrical issues the 05 Vette does, and IMHO looks a lot better.

C5Z for the reasons mentioned. Unique styling , raw power, etc. I dont think it was mentioned that the 2005 C6 had a lot of quirks, issues, bugs, etc. Plus the trannys had troubles finding the right gears (auto), and there were problems with driver/passengers getting locked in their cars. If you want a C6 really, Im not trying to rain on your parade, but you should either do a Carfax or get a newer car. You mentioned the C5Z was cheaper. I would be all over the Z like ugly on an ape.

I also have a question for you c5Z06.... can you make it over speed bumps with your car? (even if its been lowered on the factory suspension) seems to low between the tires....

I'm a little surprised at how often this question comes up. I honestly believe that most people are better off just getting the C6.
Don't get me wrong, I have owned a '04Z for 4 years now and have no desire to "trade up" to a C6 coupe, although I can easily afford to. The C5Z is a special car which only appeals to a certain segment of drivers....in other words, those who appreciate the handling and feel that this car delivers STOCK, as well as, the lightness @ 3,118 lbs. If that means nothing to you, then get the C6. It's still a great car, and plenty fast, but it's just more of a grand tourer.
Styling is subjective, so I'll leave that up to you to decide on your own.

I have a 2002 C5Z and I love it. Had a 94 coupe but wanted to do some racing and the Z is the answer to that. I beat C6's all day long both 1/4 mile and autocross. C5 style beats C6 any day in my view. Awesome handling and brakes yet comfortable ride. I take a long summer trip in the car every year. I never get tired of the 6 speed and I live with Chicago traffic!

I'm 20 too, and faced the samne decision. Go with the c5z, it's considerably funner and faster, both when going straight and turning.

If you're gonna lower a C5Z on the stock bolts, make sure you get a set of rocker savers. These are a set of aluminum rails that sacrifice themselves instead of your rocker panels if you ever get "high-centered" over driveways, bumps, etc. They bolt inboard of the rockers and hang down about 1/4" below the rockers. If you bust a rocker, they're expensive to fix! Ask me how I know...
