Default C5 Z06 vs. C6

hello im fairly new to the corvette world and im looking at purchasing either a 2002 corvette z06 or a 2005 corvette. im just curious what YOUR opinion on the 2 cars is or what you would buy.....

p.s The C5 Z06 black with bassani exhaust, tint, and lowered, 18k miles

The C6 is a 4 speed auto, fully loaded, 29k miles, stock

Thanks for the help

I would pick the Z06 all day. I thought about the same thing when they were new (2004 Z06 vs 2005 C6). The Z06 is faster and funner IMO.

on the other hand, a C6 coupe is almost as fast as a C5Z, and has a number of features not available on the Z (targa top, better headlights, navigation, automatic trans, etc). I also think that when the C7s come out the C6s will hold their value better because they will be only 1 generation old, whereas the C5s will be two generations old. Look at how much C4s sell for these days.

I am currently running through this same decision in my head, and also including C5 coupes in the decision making process. I think a big factor is which body style do you like better? Some people love the notchback, fixed roof coupe look. I really dont care for it, and wish they had made the C5Z in a standard, fastback body style. C5s are a bit longer and sexier looking than the C6s, which look a bit more modern.

Drive them both and make your decision based on that.

I have to disagree on the 05 c6 being almost as fast as the c5Z. especially the auto. I put drag radials on and ran 11.9 @116 on several occasions and average 12.1 @116-117! I have witnessed auto a4s run 12.6-12.8s @ 111-113. They were on street tires, but the trap speed tells the story. usually when a car's et is good, they tend to run a slower trap speed.

If your going to ride around sight seeing in the car and are not interested in unique styling and shifting get the C6. You have to drive them they are different flavors of Vette.
The C6 feels bigger and more comfortable to me and the C5Z06 feels more hot to go fast.

Think I'd want to go a year newer and get the 6spd auto if you decide you want an auto for daily driving. Not a real big fan of the GM 4spd auto for a performance car after having a few (in Fbodies, not in a C5/C6 though admittedly).

Other than the 6spd vs auto bit it seems to me like both the C5Z and C6 are awesome rides. Decide for yourself which you prefer after driving both.

i would look at a c6 06 and newer for the ls3 engine..there was also improvement in the auto trans..price starts to rise as you go newer..so whatever you can afford, is whats ultimately realistic.

LS3 did not come in 06, but 08. I just got rid of my c5z06(435rwhp) to get in to a c6.

I have driven c6's, and I like the feel more. Though, I appreciate the raw muscle car feel of the c5Z, I am getting away from racing and more in to Texas Mile racing and having a newer car. If you want a driver's car, the C5Z is a much better car IMO. The c6, and 08+ is an improvment in fit and finish. Drive them both.

That is a great assessment. It all depends on what you want from the car. For me the C5 Z wins, because I still love the muscle and raw feel it gives me.

The main differences are in the transmissions. Two different animals.

You'll Work to drive the zo6 although it's worth it, and the '05 has a big on/off switch under your right foot. Not the best for setting the right gear before a corner, etc.

BTW, the 6-speed in the zo6 is the best part about my car, the ratios are well matched for light street duty.

Both have their quirks, if it's an outside car then don't get a z, it will have a rain leaking problem soon enough. The hidden truth about these cars. If it's a garaged weekend car it wont be a problem if you're out in weather.

I have driven both, like them both for different reasons, however I have always loved the FRC and I love the raw feel the C5Z provides! Plus, I just think the C6 is plain with little character (comparing the two).

My wife has asked me a couple of times: "Why haven't you thought about buying a C6Z?" My answer: I like the one I have, it's got all that I want, Just like you.

+1.

You have to work the c6, either wide body or nice wheels and tires to set it apart. The FRC sets it self apart bone stock. That is the one thing that I will have to get used to when I squeeze the trigger in the next few weeks on a c6. Nothing beats the c5Z lines. Best looking vette made, IMO. It has been 2 weeks, and I miss 435rwhp and 3.90 gears.
