Default Trunk

The trunk is difficult to open. the latch releases just fine, but the trunk does not pop up. I end up needing to pry it open. How do you adjust it so the trunk will pop up when you release the latch?

Common problem. Solutions range from free to replacing the struts. I reccommed you use Search and see what works for you. GL

Just oil the strut rods and hinges, works GREAT and takes all of 2 minutes-best of all, it only cost $0.02 worth of OIL!

After you hit the trunk opener & the lid opens just a little....make sure both windows are in the up position...open & shut a door and see if it pops up more....it should. That's what I do with my FRC. Good luck

Who woulda thought? A little lithium grease and the trunk lid is popping up just fine. I will take a look at the "popper" that was mentioned. curious what it is, but grease seems to have solved my issue. Thanks for suggestion....

At $22 for the popper, think of it more as a donation to the museum

Is "lithium" grease automotive specific grease? I was thinking about greasing both my trunk and hood hinges, however I want to use some good stuff.

Just try spraying some WD-40 into the trunk latch mechanism. That worked for me!

The popper is a spring and a cap. I went to Orchard Supply and bought two springs 1-3/4" long with a 1/2" diameter and kinda threaded them over the polished part of each of the trunk struts. The trunk now pops up enough to easily get my fingers underneath.

My fix was a couple bucks.

Mine sticks once in awhile as well. All I do is hit the button again and it pops the rest of the way up!

Trunk Popper is what I've got on my FRC. I've got carpet on the trunk lid whichs makes it a little heavy for the stock struts.

I had this condition and considered installing an assist spring. I decided to check out why it was not fully popping up.
There is a spring contained in the latch which provides a fair amount of force against the striker which is why the lid needs a decent amount of force to close and latch.
I figured that since there seemed to be enough force from the latch spring to pop it up that there had to be resistance elsewhere [the hinges].
There are multiple pivot points on the hinges. I used a precision oiler to lubricate all the pivot points and then worked the lid/hinges opening and closing to work the lubricate in.
My lid now opens about an inch as it should.

You could lubricate the pivot points on both hinges to restore the engineered function of the lid and latch mechanism that has internal spring to push up the lid. If you enjoy buying things for your car then get the add on device.

GM included a trunk popper which is an internal spring contained within the latch.
The service manual specifies Lubricating all body door hinges and latches including the rear lift hatch[trunk] at least once a year.

For adding pop up gadgets to take the place of vehicle maintenance including lubricating moving parts, there's MASTERCARD

Maintaining your vehicle to operate the way the manufacturer designed it:PRICELESS
