So I got a fix it ticket a couple of weeks ago for the front plate here in CA. Ordered a front plate filler from Gene. It comes in black plastic with a textured finish. Kind of went with my silver/black scheme. Didn't really like it, so I sanded it down smooth with 400 grit and layed 3 coats of gloss black plastic spray paint and 2 coats of clear. Not the same as having the filler plate on, but it's not to bad. I need to re-paint the screens now. Night time garage pictures. Going canyon carving tomorrow and will take some pictures in natural lighting.

I just bought my 98 this morning and there is one in the back still in the factory plastic, along with the 12 disc changer that also has never been used. I plan to install mine since 99.7% of Oregon LEO's are a PITA.
I have the same deal on my car and like it very much. I think it would look better painted the body color though. Just my opinion which isn't worth much even at my own house.
The plain black plastic plate holder is a GM part. The painted version is an aftermarket piece. Some supporting vendors offer them, I believe Mid America has the painted versions.
I recently got a warning for not having my front plate on, so I installed the filler (painted yellow) that the previous owner had. I think it looks ok...
I have the same one on my car and it looks right. Probably because it's supposed to be on the car and is OEM.
I like the painted look too, the dull texture is a little boring. A bit easier to scrub the bugs off though.
I was just reading the thread that got closed about front plates and it always amazes me at how crazy people get over the issue.
IMHO this is the best looking plate frame for the front of our cars. Going through the trouble of getting a clear one and painting it seems like a lot of effort when people are practically giving these away and they look fine.
I especially like how you worked it into your color scheme.
I've only been in SoCal for two months now but I see a LOT of vehicles, high performance and mundane, driving around without front plates - not the majority, but a decent percentage. I'm currently driving the wife's C5 I just had trucked in from Indiana which is a no-front-plate state so I'm currently driving without one legally. I'll need to decide how to handle that soon, though, since we're closing on our home here at the end of Oct. Fun decision . . .
what happens when you are just over the legal drinking limit, get stopped for no plate and can't drive for a month and are out a couple thousand dollars?

post here when that happens.
Best not to drink and drive....its the little things that get most people caught
