I have a 2001 LS1 that I bought with about 27000 miles on it. It seems to have used about a half quart of oil in 3000 miles or so ( I do drive the crap out of it now and then )... anybody have a similar experience?
Thanks, it just startled me the other day when I got a low oil level warning from the DIC. I only put enough oil in it on my first oil change to go about halfway between the marks on the dipstick (which roughly represent a quart of oil I think). The DIC lit up and sure enough I was right at the bottom mark on the stick after about 3500 miles.

The '00 6-speed coupe I had was using a quart of oil every 1200 miles back in '01. Had the dealer replace the rings under warranty - solved the problem. The '01s in particular had a bad #2 ring and it really showed up in the manual tranny cars when driven somewhat aggressively.
I was told by a GM tech that the 2001 C5 had oil consumtion problems I don't konw what the diffrence is in the prior years but thats what is being said how much of this is true your guess is as good as mine I just know my 98 consumes no oil beteen changes
This is a every day problem with the ls motors, its related to the pcv,Just google ls1 corvettes with pcv system.you will learn alot about these motors. good luck.
Mine don't seem to use a drop of oil.. I must have had a motor put in it on one of their good day's.
Fact, Not all motors in them years used oil..yes some did but mine and a lot of freinds i know, Their corvettes dont use any at all just like mine..So i think its true some did come with bad rings in them, And if you got lucky you had a good motor put in..And thats the class i fall in too. Just my 2 cents. :>)
Because if i even burned any oil..Being out in calif with the way they smog your car out this way i know they would catch it.. And i just passed with very low readings..So i'm one happy camper.. And even if they did not catch it and it still passed my reading on my smog test would have been higher on my TEST!!..
Hi There,
Per the 01 shop manual. Excessive oil consumption (not due to leaks)is the use of 1qt. or more of engine oil in 1,500 miles. So I would not lose any sleep over a 1/2 qt. in 3k.

My first vette was an 01' coupe with 13k miles on it. I bought it in 04'. It used all as described in previous posts. I took the car in to the dealership and was given a service bulletin stating that oil consumption between oil changes was considered normal and not to worry. So I didn't. I now own an 01' vert and have not noticed anything unusual oil consumption problems. I've put about 4k miles on the car since the oil was changed and haven't noticed a drop in oil level. I tend to agree with one of the previous post and think that maybe not all motors in 01' had the problem.
My modded 99 never needs oil between changes but, especially when I get on it, ther well be 1/4 to 1/2 inch oil accumulated in the catch can. Normall driving zippo oil use.
Very common issue........do a Search and you'll find a ton of posts on this topic. You may want to consider getting a Catch Can from one of our Forum Vendors. Try Chip at CCA or Elite Engineering.e 01 was particularly
