This is an insurance claim, so I think I should get a HUD windshield like the car had originally. Has anyone seen a PILKINGTON HUD windshield? Does it say HUD on it? I would assume it does.
I called the shop, he is calling the insurance company and making arrangements to get the correct glass in it.
The shop was aware the new glass did not say HUD on it, but apparently the glass installer said it was in fact HUD glass even though the label didn't say that.
After the old glass was removed the glass installer and manager of the body shop both sat in the seat and looked at the HUD image and decided it worked.
I'm not going to point any fingers, I'm just not sure how this could happen. The guy that did the install was the owner of the glass company.
Hopefully the insurance company agrees and this gets corrected.
So I'm a firm believer in the overall corruption of humanity and I believe people are generally bad not good. My vote is the insurance company was going to get a $1000 bill for the windshield either way. They just won't make a big fat profit on the deal now.
An OEM winshield from the dealer is around 700 dollars. An OEM HUD windshield from the dealer is 1700 dollars because of the inner coating and limited production. the hud shield works better , but the non hud will work, just not as well
This link shows a photo of C5 windshields hanging on a wall with both normal and HUD shaded models. Appears the HUD shaded are quite different in their shading.
I would say if it doesn't say HUD on it they did the wrong one.
When I was checking into having my windshield replaced or repaired just recently I found that the only place that actually could supply the correct HUD unit was Safelite. Go to their website and find the correct replacement for your car and they will actually ask if the car has HUD when they quote you.
Seems you have a replacement windshield. Just checked my OEM install on my '02, and it says "Shaded HUD Solar Ray," part number is 43R-009047, and GM's source is "Safety-Lite."
