I just bought a 2000 C5. Love the car and really feel I picked it up right. My question is in relation to the seat backs. Mine don't lock down in one spot they will still move about 4 to 6 inches forward and back. I have heard that this is the way they are designed. Is this true?
Thank you,
Mike
Yes once the seat back is in the locked position, you can still tilt it forward a few inches. I figure its that way to allow you to access the area behind the seat without having to fully unlatch it. Plus you have to bring it more than half way forward tilt to get it to lock forward.
Hmmmm. I have a 2004 and both mine have a side adjustment arm and do lock into place. Not sure if anything changed between 2000 and 2004 and if something on your seats is malfunctioning, I'm surprised it's happening on both seats.
There is a possibility that your vertical/side adjustment rod is out of line. There was an earlier fix/post where you move the seat all the way forward and then click the vertical adjustment rod back into place, however I'm not sure if you're experiencing the same issue or not.
Edit - I agree with the above post whereas there is a little movement to reach behind the seats in case the OP was referring to that.
Mine is an '01 and it's been that way since new basically.
I went out to re-verify earlier as I was going to say no, but then realize oh yes they do tilt a few inches, when locked. My passenger seat is still practically new and it is the same.
Thanks for the input!!! This forum is great....
I talked to my upholstery guy and he said they were designed to do that. The dealer said the same thing plus they had a 96 on their lot and the seat back moved several inches.
My parents had a 78 silver anniversary and that seat locked. Guess I may have to start asking vette owners to test their seats
I love my Corvette, but it does have a few irritating issues.
Designed to do that . . . Right! I think it was one of GM's Daaaa moments.
Seems whenever there is a flaw, it was designed to do that. I just love the way the back of my passenger seat slams forward 4" and then slams back into place whenever I hit the brakes a little hard. It was nice of GM to leave 4" of slack in the seat back so that I can reach in the back with my tiny little arms to retrieve something without taking one second to use the release lever on the back of the seat.
