When I bought my C5 it only came with one key. I asked a guy when i was at Carlisle this year about making me one and he wanted $60 for one key. I bought two blanks online and with shipping it was less than $15 for both and I say about $5 each to get them cut when they get here. So I will have about $25 invested in two keys instead of $60 for one, can we say CORVETTE TAX...lol
In case other members are going the same route, make sure you buy the correct key with the correct VATS pellet as atmsrus1 did.
VATS key codes:
The BCM measures the resistance value of the resistance of the pellet and allows the fuel system to operate. If it is within +/-10% the car will start.
To check your key value:
Set your digital volt meter to “ohms mode” and measure the value across the pellet.
One of my keys actually snapped off in the ignition. I had to remove the ignition barrel to get the remains out. I then superglued the old cut section of the key to a new blank and filed the new one to shape with some needle files.
