Ok i recently purchased a 2002 TR z06. I noticed my doors will not lock with the key fob or button on either door. Howevery i can unlock only the passenger side with the remote or switch on the door. Any thing known that could be the problem? My dads a GM tech but hasnt had the time to even start looking at it. The remote just sets the alarm or disarms it
I would suspect that the both door actuators do not work since the alarm sets and unsets with the fob and the key in the door. Does the door lock and unlock with the inside button intermittantly or malfunction altogether. Does the alarm set with the inside button or does it not set it? The actuators on C5s are a weak point and do go out. My 2002 TR driver side door actuator is acting intermittantly and I have ordered a new one - cost is around $240 from the dealer. You should get codes with an H (history) since that is the only code sent to the DIC as the problem is not sent to the driver. The factory service manual will give you page in the book telling what the problem may be. If it is the actuators, the codes will be A0-LDCM [left door control module] and will probably be B2252H Key Cylinder Switch Fault, B2282H Battery #1 Fault, B2284H Battery #2 Fault and B1064H Loss of Communication with BCM (Body Control Module). You should get the same codes for the A1-RDCM. Since the alarm is being set, it would most probably the actuators, but it also could be the DCMs having a problem. Also, is your car battery in good condition? The Battery fault for #1 and #2 are for high voltage and low voltage and not the fob battery. The replacement parts are expensive and the dealer labor is not cheap, so you might want to tackle the job yourself. Changing out parts is an expensive way to go if the diagnosis is incorrect, so you might also want to get a scan tool to verify the problem. Maybe some of the other C5 owners will chip in with their experience with this problem and either confirm what I have stated, give more info, or correct me if I am wrong.
An update to my response about the door lock issue. Yesterday I stopped by my dealer and talked to the World Class Technician who does most of the dealer's work on corvettes. When I described my issue with the door lock on my Z06 )intermittent lock/unlock and always setting alarm) and that my readings of various posts on the forums and discussions with non world class techs about the problem was that the problem was the actuator, he told me that this answer was wrong. The issue is with the Left Door Control Module (LDCM) on my vette as the LDCM sends the signal to the acutator to open/close lock and set alarm. He said that the LDCM does not know the difference if the signal comes from the fob or the button. He also said that he has repaired more than a dozen C5s with the issue and the problem always was the DCM, not the acutator. He said the actuator was a problem on C4s, but not necessarily the C5.
One does not have to replace both DCMs if one goes bad as I have read on the forums.
So my previous post may have been in error suggesting that it was the actuator. Now you have to do your own investigating to determine what is wrong with your corvette. It may be the DCM, the acutator, or both. Could also be the battery connection if the battery is bad or if the terminals are not torqued to 89 inch pounds.
