just about finished
just have to glue back the edges
I got one nice ugly wrinkle so I am thinking about redoing it if I can not pull it out with help of the blow dryer
man, GREAT work you and your gf have done! I wish i had that type of patience and work ethic, but sadly not. You are an inspiration! Keep it up, i'll be waiting to drool over the finished product, gonna be sick!
Also,
anyone know what this is called and how I would go about removing it?
Pop off that trunk button and fog button, there's a torex bit behind it, unscrew that you should be good, unlees you have to remove the panel above your knees
If I remember correctly, you will have to drop the knee bolster to remove that panel. There are several screws in the bottom of the bolster to remove. If you search HUD install, it will show you how to tear down the whole dash, which you will need to do eventually. Your project looks amazing by the way.

anyone have any ideas for a fix?
Instructions below on how to fix your HVAC display. Fairly simple. Tried it on my display and it works great.
StarStuk GM aerosol is an industrial strength contact adhesive for a wide range of applications. The GM adhesive is water resistant and temperature resistant to above 150°F. GMmay be used on a variety of substrates; insulation, fabrics, upholstery, foam, felt, cardboard, glass, cork, fiberglass and plastics. The aerosol system reduces application cost by saving time and material.
I have not met an aerosol glue that's sold in autoparts stores that would hold in hot weather. They all turn to goo especially when in contact with vinyl. The GM stuff is supposed to be good, and then there are spray gun applied glues the custom shops use.
I did my impala's dash in vinyl, and replaced the headliner with 3M glues, and the vinyl started bubbling the first hot day and the headliner sagged. Black surfaces in a black car are brutal.
