I've seen the filters they sell for the cowl and don't really think they look like they would filter out much. I was noticing the horrible residue that builds up on the inside of my windshield in just two days of driving and came to the conclusion that I am going to die if I keep breathing in that crap for two hours a day.
Now I see what you are refering to, too many hours on the Hwy. Can you find another route with out going in an area where you will get killed? That is why I moved out of Detroit 32 years ago.
No filters needed here, same Vette as yours.
You may not see em,but the same particles are everywhere. You worry to much.
Somehow I doubt that the air quality is the same everywhere as it is right next to thousands of running vehicles. I get that I live in brown air but the cleaning of the inside of the car is irritating as well. I don't have this problem in my Buick.

I also plan on getting the hell out of California. Apparently when you have green things called trees and plants they filter the air. In California we aren't OK with leaving plants and trees in the ground because they take up valuable real estate...

It also really pisses me off that a Nissan Titan has two cabin air filters and the Corvette GM flagship has no filter at all.
You can always buy a Hazmat suit, and get a respirator, and put a corvette logo on them and you are good to go. The stuff... you get on the inside of the windshield is the volatiles that react with the Sun on your dash pad, this vapor can kill you. You cant filter it out so leave the windows open because exhaust fumes are much better than that stuff.

I don't have one yet but I have an idea. I have a vert, with the top down and a cabin air filter I'd actually be cleaning the outside air thus improving air quality everytime I drive the car.
I do use the foam cowl filter and when you wash it you can really see how much crap it does filter out. Not saying that they will keep your lungs clean, but it does keep the crap out of the drain bladders.

All kidding aside Bill this could have been designed into the C5. Maybe a little before it's time in 96-97, it could have been updated at some point during the run. The stuff on my windshield is basically particulate oil. That is coming off my dashboard? I have some ideas on how I could make a unit to Retro in but I'm going to have to remove the cowl to see what kind of clearance I have between the firewall and the cowl.
Mr. Bill I don't want to sell the vette. I want another excuse to modify it.
My 97 still gets that funky film on the windshield. Unless I get caught driving in the rain I always keep the window cracked an inch or two. Don't see how a cowl filter can stop it from happening.

All kidding aside, they would not allow me a 7 cent upgrade on one of my designs that would have increased the cost to manufacture 90 cents a unit.. you think they would allow a recirculating system in a car with windows that open and close, and a top that either comes off or goes down. Now seriously don't you think that is pretty silly? Its hardly a hermetically sealed cabin. I think you are standing on the bow of an aircraft carrier when they turn her into the wind and you are about to relieve your *****. I hope that isn't too insensitive. Be thankful this car was built the way it was otherwise we would have never been able to afford it.
